Really? I never heard of this, and never found any such plans throughout the house... Hours have been spent exploring That's interesting though. I thought it was maybe a medical house at one point, due to all the medical supplies and mass amounts of public-like washrooms and what not, this idea only to be made more true to me by the fact that nearly everyone in the family were doctors. Eh, that's just my guess though. I do know, however, that this place was called "The Round Room". Found that out from old newspaper clippings I found within the house. They used to host banquets and wine and cheese parties and such. Still wondering why they have like 10 horse-drawn carriages... Did your friend tell you the family's last name was Gow? That's the only family I know of, and their extended family has a website which I can't remember anymore... But they're extremely wealthy and apparently descendants of royalty in Germany. Man, I wish I knew more about the actual plans and what this place used to be. D:
Posted by Wander Woman Wow,that is so weird...the house, the layout, the bizarre stuff that is left. I am soooooo curious. I must be a little weird though, too, because I've had occasional dreams all my life of slowly and thoroughly exploring houses like that. Someday I hope it happens in real life.
|
It's amazing to actually take hours and go back a few times to really get an indepth analysis of the place. There's so much hiding in every room and cupboard... There's even unopened chapstick in the bathroom from over ten years ago... Weird stuff. [last edit 4/29/2009 2:55 PM by unendlichkeit - edited 1 times]

| | | I agree! I love when places are relatively in mint condition. Of course, this place is littered with booze bottles, cigarettes packs, and pop bottles, but that's about it. That, and fossilized dog fecal matter... If I ever get the videos into the right format I'll upload them for you for a better tour. (:

| | | Posted by unendlichkeit It's very weird because there's few bedrooms, over 5 bathrooms, baby incubators and oxygen tents, indoor pools, and about ten horse drawn carriages... And jam from 1970 haha. We actually took a suitcase full of letters from the 70s and scanned them, they'll be on our website soon. If you care to check it out... http://www.uxcan.tk/ ((still under construction)) I adore this house.
|
You shouldn't have taken anything from there. i never take anything that is stealing. even if it is abandoned. I wonder why they left so much in there? creepy.

| | | Posted by unendlichkeit I've been to this place nearly 10 times and every time I find more stuff. The place is literally jam packed full of the previous owners belongings... Absolutely packed. [/center]
|
That's great, I'm sure other people would love to see what memories are left in that house. There must be some very old letters worth reading, to better understand the lives of those who once lived in the home. It's not like you took them and ruined that experience for other explorers. Oh wait... you did.

However if you return them, other people could enjoy them as well. You've got them on your website, so there's no point keeping them. BTW your website is loading very slowly for me. [last edit 5/2/2009 2:02 AM by Intrinsic - edited 2 times]

| | | Such a crazy find... I've always dreamed of coming across something so intact, and so interesting. It's weird that all the medical equipment was still there if they started to convert it into a restaurant. Anyone know if the family is still around? or why they left?

I'm quite sure it will, but at least I got some information out of them. ;) Oh, and like was said above: If I return them it's not that big a deal. I have the scans done, there's no more use for them. [last edit 5/4/2009 4:55 PM by unendlichkeit - edited 2 times]

| | | I dropped by there on the weekend with msDeKay. We didn't go inside, because the neighbours at the back were out with their dog and were within earshot of the POE. It's certainly a cool place. The fact that there's flowering plants growing inside is a little unnerving. Here's a couple of crappy shots taken through the glass:
The edge of the roof seems to have suffered a little damage since you took your pano shot:

| | | Whoever goes back to the place see if you can find a phone number for contact. I would love to put those peices of artifacts into a museum before they got totally destroyed. I mean the car and the horse drawn carriage, and perhaps the dog fecese.

| | | I also doubt the restaurant story. The place is very oddly situated for something like that, and at the time they'd have been gravitating towards opening it, Fergus wasn't exactly conducive to new restaurants. If I am back to the location in the near future (I probably will be), I will see about a contact number. One of my friends lives quite close by as well, so there's a chance that his family knows where to contact these people, or at least where they may have gone.

The square-ish block out of it? It's always been that way, we just kind of fixed it up in the pano involuntarily. Cool that you got to visit, it's amazing inside. The way in seems so hard, but we have a system now. Did you explore the backyard? Lots of bathroom appliances and medical appliances. Very weird.

| | | Just doing a bit of research, it looks like the current owner may be the same man who owns the building in which my father runs his business. So I guess I'd better be careful not to get caught in there. That'd probably look bad. Gow is, I believe, the correct name of the family that was living there. That family is fairly well-established in Fergus, and there is a Gow Street in the town.

| | | Yep, it was the Gow's who lived there. They even had their own pharmacy in town at one point. "Gow's Pharmacy".. Original name. You can actually believe it even more when you go because there's pill bottles everywhere with their pharmacy name on it, and numerous pills in the fridge in the downstairs kitchen. There are quite a few Gow's in the Bellsyde Cemetery by my home. So, the entire town has the Gow name about it.

| | | They also had a quarry out on that road at one point. In the 1930s, Omer Gow was supplying a lot of stone for builders in the area. Belsyde's a nice cemetery. Fergus is where I went to school and grew up (before I moved to Berlin). I still spend a lot of time around there, since my family lives just outside of town.
