| | looking for group to explore with < on 3/13/2007 5:21 AM >
| | | I know there have been posts in the past about trying to get something together in this area (Hampton Roads) but I don't know if anything ever came of it. All of my friends are girly girls or afraid of bugs and stuff like that, so it's hard to find people to explore with and being female, I definitely don't feel comfortable going by myself to most places. If anyone is looking for somebody to explore with post here and let's get a group together. Also, I travel a lot and I'll be in the Charlottesville and Blacksburg areas soon, so let me know if anyone wants to meet up in those areas! Cat

| | | I hear ya. This topic is like beating a dead horse. Seems unless there is a specific area to go with a specific time to go there..........it just never happens. All the trips I've been on have been on my own. Snow day today but I think I might head out to see if there is anything around. If you come up with a place you'd like to check out let me know. I know we can get crew together if there is some follow through and a little planning....not that there are a TON of places around here to check out. All interested should post here and make a suggestion and maybe a time and we can get the ball rolling. Would be nice to have an active crew in the area. Peace BPG

| | | Yeah, I'd like to head out with other people. Whenever I expressed if people wanted to try to get together in the past on other boards it went ignored. I'm sure people feel strange about meeting with strangers met on the internet and then heading out to abandoned places. Maybe? Doesn't bother me though, lol.

| | | I sure thats part of the issue. Then again, until someone heads up a exploration it just lingers. Lets start by asking if anyone has any suggestions of places to see. Then we can work on times and places. If it gets to be too much info on the location we can use PM. 1st on the list: Suggestions?

Yes I think that is a large part of the issue, particularly for females...most girls I know don't like tramping around overgrown abandoned places anyway and especially not with strangers. I don't mind strangers, but, you know, a girl's gotta be careful these days... :\ Personally I'd feel more comfortable if some other girls were involved or my husband was able to come but unfortunately he's out of town this weekend.

| | | Oh yeah, suggestions: 1) The old army base out in Suffolk. Yes, we've all been out there before, but I haven't seen the really good buildings yet. I'd like to go before the ticks get out of hand. Last spring we were lucky enough to see a mother fox and her kits in the area. 2) A couple of abandoned airfields in the area. Not sure if there's anything worth seeing but I'm looking into it. 3) An abandoned fish processing plant that I know of in NC, complete with moldering ship. This is somewhat out of the way but I'll be down there in August or September if anyone wants to meet there. 4) Closed school in the area. It's not very big, but it's been shut up tight for 30 years or so and looks untouched. I'll post pics of the outside.

My sister and her husband might be going with this Saturday. She went with me when I got the pics of the grafton golf center. I'll have to find out if she still is. She has plans in the morning but should be available by 1.

| | | Set a date guys since your the ones out of town. With enough notice we can make it happen. I've got a tip on an abandoned hotel I'm looking to check out tomorrow. My sister knows some guys who may know how to get out to the abandoned hunting fishing lodge I posted some pics of. They would be sweet. Like to get some inside shots. Then again I haven't been there in about three years. Who knows if it's still there. Peace BPG

| | | I think a meet and greet is a great idea. I come back into town the weekend of Cinco de Mayo(May 5th/6th) and would love to a meet and greet soon after that. We could talk about potential places to go and set up an exploration.

| | | Newport News park seems like a good place to me. It's more or less a midpoint between Southside and Richmond, plus it's gotta be close to something cool.
