Nope, all wood. I imagine they were replaced at some point during the operating life of the canal.

i was surprised how long these last when constantly in water. the ones in the lock walls on the lachine canal rotted in no time but the ones at des seigneurs near northern electric that are sitting on the canal bottom under 2 concrete blocks are in near perfect shape

Yeah, water's an amazing preservative. I heard about a guy fishing 100+ year old logs out of the Ottawa River, and making good money doing it too.
