  These storage jars are for storing food and are called pithoi. Some of them are as large as 6 feet tall.

  is this during an archaeological dig? i don't think those jars would be left laying around otherwise.

  There are so many jars, many of the less interesting ones end up just lying about. They're huge though, and the place is guarded. Very discreetly, but should you try to touch anything, you'll immediately hear the screams of the guards. Someone ALWAYS does something like this at Delphi, for instance. The guards are not amused in the least.

  good to know. i won't touch any jars while guards are around. i just thought they might be of some importance.
