Location DB > United States > California > South Bay > Dumbarton Rail Corridor > Maps and Historic > 1986

8 / 8   1986

Description
In a just a years time more important changes take place in the area. The old Dumbarton road bridge's lift span is removed, leaving only the road approaches. The Dumbarton rail bridge is now shown as inactive, told by the written status of "Permanently Open" under its clearance information. This could mean that trains still continued to cross the bridge after 1982 up until 1986, or simply that the Southern Pacific railroad finalized the abandonment papers three or four years after the fact, and had kept the bridge in the open position since 1982. More research would have to be dedicated to this subject before the answer is found.
