Yeah, both bridges were built with the capacity for two parallel tracks, but the corridor was never expanded beyond the single track and so the space was never utilized for rail traffic.

*sigh* The days when the SP Black Widdow would run the Bay Area. The days when roundhouses existed. The days when you could actually talk with yard crew and carry on a conversation. -- Keep those memories guys!

Trucks suck. We're losing rail yards and spur lines by the boatload here in Canada. I imagine it's the same all over.

UP is building a new bridge to use instead of the Kate Shelly bridge here in Iowa, as its an older bridge with a low speed limit. They plan to use the old bridge as a siding instead.
