i have heard of the light at the end of the tunnel, but this is the light at the end of the train cabin

The light's on the seat. You don't even have to get up and walk to end of the cabin.

That is a portable red rear marker light (non-kerosene type). The tab at upper left fits into a bracket on the end of each car, near the top left and right corners. The brackets may show in some of the other photos showing the connections between the cars.

That's true a rear end marker probobly flashes and keeps other trains from running into it, well supposed to?!!

I found recently this trainset was sent to Bear, DE and may or may not been scrapped.
