These trains are very rare design. They for one thing, had the business class section in the back half of the engine cab. They are also apart of the history of passenger rail in New York State also one of the many blunders of the New York State gov't. UPDATE: Its sealed up, the doors are locked now and undercarriage holes are sealed now.

Rohr Industries built 7 trainsets of its Rohr Turboliners for Amtrak in the 1970s at its California plant. What is unique about these trains is that they are powered by a gas turbine engine instead of a conventional diesel engine that most trains are powered by and are designed for high speed service. The trainsets were sent for operation between Albany, NY and New York City, which is a pretty busy corridor. They operated right up to 1995, when they were pulled out of service to be rebuilt. All 7 trainsets got many upgrades, including a brand new 1600 horsepower turbine engine. These refurbished Turboliners are refered to as RTL II. They remained in service untill 2002. New York State, in conjunction with Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Adminstration funded for a 3rd complete rebuild of the RTL II trainsets. This time, they were sent to SuperSteel in Glenville, NY for the task. The first RTL III trainset went into service in April 2003 with a second train going into service a few weeks later, again on the Albany-New York City route. A third trainset was delivered later on, but did not go into service. In the fall of 2004, Amtrak pulled the 2 RTL III trains from service after problems with the HVAC system among many others. SuperSteel was ordered to stop the entire refurbishment process complely. At this point in time, there was trainsets halfway through the refurbishment process with one sitting in the yard. The 3 trainsets that were completed were sent to Amtrak's storage facility in Bear, DE. The half completed trainsets were removed from the shop floor and were shrinkwrapped and prepared for transport. The only trainset that never made entered the refurbishment sits now at the rail line spur for SuperSteel, where it has been sitting since 2002. The history on this particular trainset is that in its last few days of operation, the turbine engine failed in one of the engine cars and was pulled by a GE Geneies diesel locomotive for a week.
