Have you ever used one? lol.
unless you're doing a straight drop and just dangling from it, I think it's an irritation to not be able to position yourself properly while rappelling.

Typically, if you're leaning back the way you should be, you have more room to find your footing if you slip, or you could bring your legs up and bump your ass.

When you're sucked forward against the rope though, and you lose your footing, your face is kissing the rock pretty fast. The ability to lean back while rap'ing gives you stability. Having the lower attatchment point changes the way your body moves when you pendulum on the line...how it's held in relation to the rock/wall/thing.

But you should definitely try it on a long drop that's a few degrees off 90 and see how it goes! =)

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're more worried about not being able to keep yourself upright and possibly tipping over backwards?

The upper front Dring on that harness you wouldn't thread the rope through, you'd clip a biner in and then clip that on the line, and you'd end up with it up around your face doing that. The end of that D sticks up really high. While leaning back to rappel, I'm pretty sure being connected that high up to the rope would make it want to pull your face forward.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)
