| | | Posted by OpenTrackRacer Are you using two handled ascenders on a single rope? That can be a tough way to climb! Mike
|
Yep. I was gonna get foot straps but had run out of money at that point. The two ascenders are obviously webbed to the harness. 2 ropes? Explain. Cause you can cover more ground in less time?

| | | I think maybe he's asking if you're using two seperate handled ascenders on the same single static line during your ascents. I find it easier using a single handled ascender and a ascender attatched to my harness. With two handled ascenders I was always having to pull my body in up against the rope or my feet would slip slideways in the loops easily. I guess whatever works for ya though. Alot of people seem to find their "own" easiest way of doing it.
Also, you could use a double-handled ascender (single ascender with two handles built into a single structure) which some of the arborist guys seem to like for long ascents. ***EDIT*** Rob you squaremonkey, Yep. I was gonna get foot straps but had run out of money at that point. |
Footstraps? Dude, 1" tubular webbing. Tie a water knot or a beer knot. The stuff is like 35 cents a foot. C'mon dude. Think outside the bun, make a foot strap. [last edit 3/15/2010 9:11 PM by Therrin - edited 1 times]

| | | Two separate handled ascenders don't really work on a single rope. They're designed to be used in pairs on twin ropes (where they work very well and are quite fast) with footloops. One of the best methods for ascending single ropes is with one handled ascender/footloop (attached to your harness via a cowstail of course) and a Petzl Croll chest ascender. This makes a Frog ascending system which is quite rapid and can be used over long pitches without tiring you out. Mike

| | | Having worked at a sporting goods retailer, I know that all the service rep does is read whats written on the package back to you, while you're standing there, only he does it with conviction. Thats why when I buy new gear, I just go and point out what I want and buy it, having already researched it online and through people who use them. Service reps will tell you just about anything to get you to spend $$$$, educate yourself before you get to the store. Otherwise it's like sending your wife to take the car to the mechanic.

| | | http://www.caltele...nd_mohawk_mine.htm Copper World and Mohawk mine. Been meaning to check these out for a while and might add them to the event in April. Anyone really know anything about them? I have a few days of work starting tomorrow and may go out afterwards. Edit: Copper World, not Copper King...or Copper, copper, copper, I love me some coper mine. They seem to have run out of names for these places. Rob, I didn't notice it till just now. But do you realize that on at least one of our trips inside the mines, you had your helmet on BACKWARDS the entire time???? that musta been hella uncomfortable bro. The x'ed straps go in the BACK of your head homie. That V in the straps on the side, your ear goes in that area, not underneath the straps. Damn dude, I wish I'd seen that earlier and fixed it for ya. Sorry. [last edit 3/25/2010 7:33 AM by Therrin - edited 2 times]

| | | LOL!!! Yeah, I remember going...how the hell does this go on again. Both ways seemed uncomfortable. Looking at the photos, now, it's as clear as day. I was so exhausted, though. Notice how happy I was, never-the-less. At that time, I was in the epicenter of the worst period of the last 10 years. But all problems disappeared completely on that trip. I was living my childhood dream. Things are better now. Not perfect but the wheal seems to still be turning in my favor. Okay, too much info. Edit: That sweater is now next to the ore cart at columbia. I'll retrieve it someday. I don't think mice get that far down. [last edit 3/25/2010 8:45 AM by robk700 - edited 1 times]
