Just an FYI:

I'm the quirky lookin guy in the white helmet with dual headlampst, blue backpack, facemask, and yellow air monitor who's usually seen rappelling down every nook and cranny I could find and walking around with generally a ton of gear on.

I was gonna post some pics but now I'll have to look through and see which pics Snordhol *didnt* already post of me. lol.

I gotta give a big shoutout to Snordhol, Nigerian Businessman, and the rest of the crew who showed up. This turned out to be an absolutely amazing trip. We had fun, we literally had a blast at times, we stayed (relatively) safe, we got back out alive, and we came home with some awesome stories that none of us are likely to ever forget.
Thanks, Snordhol and Frank, for being so attentive with the cameras, and for taking such great shots and taking the time to post them up.

This is easily the best trip I've been on, and I'm looking forward to helping plan up the next one.
At around 765 feet down in the Columbia mine, after we found the ore cart, we ended up heading back up from there. There was however, another large 45deg diagonal shaft w/ rails heading down from there, and I'd love to get back to that mine and make it all the way to the very bottom.

SWEET !!!!!!

True dat... Snordhol did an amazing job of documenting our journey.

The crazy thing about mines is... as soon as you enter, you're almost constantly at-risk. From crawling overy partially caved in sections, to dry rotted support beams, to broken and busted ladders which have fallen off the vertical shaft and are wedged diagonally partway down, to random complete dropoffs in absolute darkness, overhead hazards, exhaustion, thirst, and 'one-way-in-one-way-out' entrances/exits; you have to be on your toes constantly to keep from getting hurt.
I LOVE this stuff, I think im getting shaft-addiction.

(I still like the pictures from all the other places ya'll post up from though)

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Yes. There is much more to the truck story, but I refuse to discuss it in a public forum, due to crimes being committed to discover it's status. Lets just say it is a rather interesting story.

Saturday, Donny, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't get in a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't pick up the phone, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit don't fucking roll!

Given the terrain just to get TO the shaft, I cant for the life of me figure out how they got the damn thing even over to the opening of the shaft.

Yeah that truck in there might be no bueno. They found a bra from a missing woman down another mine near Ballarat.

That being said, this looks like it was an awesome trip. Glad you all had a great time. Great pics and documenting.

Well, now you have to share.

Nigerian's right, we probably should keep those details under wraps and restricted to PM's.

If anyone is really that interested, please send Nigerian a PM. I'm sure he can explain things the best out of all of us.

Well i just got a 100 lumen light with a 136 hour run time today... and apparently im ordering a 225 lumen headlamp (@ 3 hrs), with 115lm @ 7.5 hrs ....

So hopefully my new helmet mounted lighting will be all set for our next trip.

Speaking of that...whens our next trip? Lets get something on the drawing board. I'd be happy with a 2 day trip just to explore the entire extend of the columbia mine, or something like that if anyone's down for it, with a possible sleepover down inside the mine around the 675' area, followed by a continued exploration of the 45degree shaft that goes down from there.

yes?

Well, there's the mojave event later in april but I'm itch'n to go again soon as well. I talked to the underground explorer guys and we were pretty much at the bottom. "That incline below the underground headframe only goes down anther 100 feet or so. There is a pool of water down there and a short drive but nothing else. If you didn't go in the drift across the incline from the other ore cart don't bother... it's very long and insanely hot."

Edit: Underground Explorers will be traveling to the Barstow and Ludlow area on March 16th to meet up with the Mojave Underground and assist in a search and recovery operation for April Pitzer, who has been missing since 2004. We'll be rappeling into a number of shafts (mostly prospects) and inspecting the bottoms. We'll post updates whenever possible.

Sometimes it's good that you don't go to places. What if you would have fubar'd the whole trip by accidentally "insert mistake here."

Too bad we can't see alternate realities. Then we could see what would have happened of Jared would have went. Perhaps nothing, but perhaps everyone's live's were saved by you not making it.

Ya never know man. The universe is mysterious.

You inspired me to buy a lottery ticket right now, so maybe you not going, inspired this conversation, making me think about lottery tickets, thus winning the lottery.

If I win, I'll buy you a small house somewhere.

People are weird.
