Yeah I hear ya. I let one of the ERtechs at the ER stick one in me when I was doing work there.

I thought she was gonna do it all slowly or something and she just kinda slid it right in. The lube packets that go with them work really well. Thing feels hella weird though. I was so relieved when she pulled it out. Goofy feeling.

Aight guys,

I need to start getting a count of how many extra helmets & harnesses to bring.

Everyone who's doin vertical HAS TO HAVE a headlamp. Dont be a cheapass on your main headlamp. Everyone *should* have a spare also, but that one can be a cheapie.
I either go for halogen/multiple LED combo lights, or just purely multiple LED. Find something with a really good light output. Compare a few together before buying one.

If you're thinkin about buying a helmet or harness, and dont have a headlamp...BUY A HEADLAMP (or 2) and I'll bring harnesses and stuff.

This stuff is damn near impossible to do while tryin to hold a flashlight.

Past Trip Report

According to the above trip report, there is a way to enter the front side of the War Eagle and safely exit out the back side, where we will be camped.

After the Columbia, we decided to head into the northern War Eagle entrance, and try to make a connection to the haulage tunnel where we were camped. We shot out the entire main level of the mine, and turned to the lower levels of the mine. We came to a steep and loose rocked incline, where Robert and Miah took point. We waited for a report from them before continuing further down the incline. Once we heard word from them that a possible connection had been found, we all carefully ran down the incline. The bottom of the incline opened up into a fairly large stope, where an aluminum ladder had been placed to allow entrance up a wall to the levels of the haulage tunnel. In this tunnel we found some intense ‘Lincoln log’ like cribbing. We wove through this maze until we came out in the haulage tunnel of the War Eagle Mine. Fifteen minutes later, we excited the other side of the mountain.

I’m game, anyone else?

Hell if my next job pays cash I'll have all my own gear. Should I get a "frog" system for ascending or just a left and right ascender?

I pm'd you.

Snordhol, maybe we should do columbia on friday. From that info MU posted, it looks like the incline shaft isnt bad, and then there's the 150' drop and the 200' drop.

That's workable with my ropes. I wanna get down there and ride that ore car!

This event has no set schedule, but if you're offering up use of your equipment on Friday I can't imagine others not tagging along.

I'd kill to do columbia too. If we got down that far would we not be the first in decades? Butterflies.

Edit: Practice. If needed I could set up a 15 ft. goal post like structure out of 6 ft. trussing and 2 mother trucking beefy lighting stands, stabilized with 200 pds of sand bags each. Kinda like to avoid if possible though due to car space. But say the word and it is built.

I'm not *entirely* sure I understood the goal post thing. You mean to make lightstands for the campsite?

And actually... both mojave underground and another group have made it down to the ore cart in the columbia mine in the past 2 years. But apparently in the MU group only one guy made it all the way due to fatigue.

I'm gonna see if there are some other's in that immediate area with 200' drops that haven't been explored to the lower levels in quite a while. I'd like to break in some "new" territory.

I'm almost finished writing up the "lesson plan" for the group meeting friday morning.

Been packing gear for the last 3 hrs, putting it in rubbermaid tubs. Got two packed so far.

**EDIT**
Ok here's *most* of the climbing gear im bringing so far, the rest of the stuff is up at my storage trailer that I'll hit up before I meet snordhol.

I think at some point during our weekend; snordhol, and I, and whoever else has previous rope experience, are going to split off from the main group and go do the Columbia mine. You should join us =) Some of the drops there are supposed to be pretty long, it'd be nice to share skill sets with you.

Except for the massive rigging block pictures at the top between the ropes and the 3/4" green rigging anchors, all my pulleys and other gear are still up in the mountains at my job site. I'm heading up there tomorrow to finish some work on the job. Hopefully make some $$$$ and do some more gear shopping for next week. There's some pieces I've been dying to buy and try out.

So I am having a hitch carrier modded to hold my Xracer mini tomahawk. Considering bringing it with me only thing is that I would need a descent flat area to ride. Is there any flat lake beds near by?

Leaving Baker on the 127 will take you past two dry lake beds, plus the Dumont Dunes (see map). Honestly, the area is a pretty rocky. It would be awesome to bring your bike out, but I'm afraid you might be a bit disappointed if you're looking for something along the lines of El Mirage.

Here is another picture of the campsite and of the surrounding topography.

There are plenty of things to do even if you're not interested in the vertical stuff. Both Noonday and War Eagle have miles and miles of tunnels that require no vertical work at all. Plus the talc mine is all, well mostly, above ground. As for hanging around up top, we'll have a sign in sheet so everyone is accounted for, freeing you up to explore as you please. Again, here is a map of the surrounding mines and topography.

76grinch . . . if you've got it, bring it.

Well, as far as alerting the authorities, someone would have to drive to town as there is no cell reception out there. As Sgt. Four Leaf said, take em off the Fucking grid!

I can't say for certain if I will do vertical shafts, but I still want to see as much as possible. Can't wait. I hope the weather cooperates. I will say now to not be surprised if it is raining there.

Saturday, Donny, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't get in a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't pick up the phone, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit don't fucking roll!
