thats pretty cool but Im still struggling with the physics of this one did you crop this from the side of a wide angle shot?

or is the floor curved???

I tried to stop looking at it before I got a headache, but I think that the shadows on the floor are actually coming from something other than the slats above them.

Well last night me and a few of my UE friends who are still in STL over the summer checked out the coke plant. I saw mention of a large crane there which hung over my Mississippi river so I really wanted to find that and climb out there. Well we did and we got to the arm and I was the only one brave enough to go out on the arm, well when I was there some kid saw my friends and started shouting "S T L PD, FREEZE PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR" they didn't care cause they saw right away it was just a kid, but because I was on the arm I didn't know who it was and kinda freaked out, since I have yet to get caught UE'ing. So yeah after that we checked out the main building, some interesting machinery, nothing that compared to previous stuff though, but still interesting. Best thing we found in there was a stair case up to a catwalk over the main building, part of the wall was gone at one part so I and the guy who ventured up with me sat down on it, resting our feet on the metal roof and had a nice view and place to have a smoke.

The access to the crane:

Dude, we better go back when I'm back in STL. That looks like way too much fun, and it sounds like something I would do, climb a crane, haha.

Was that an inactive tower? If not, I hope that you know to look-up the ERP and radiation patterns for the antenna(s). You really don't want RF over exposure, after all the first thing effected is your testicles.

Here's a few random things that I happen to have in this computer. Not necessarily my best stuff, but I'd like to eventually be able to put stuff up here.

Some friends and I have this thing about old Stuckeys places. We frequently photograph them when we find them - open or not. Often, they are/were converted to other uses. This is one we found on the interstate between Canton and Columbus Ohio:

(note the poor conversion on the sign)

(we later found out they were once selling Corvettes and parts here - hence the name)

We found this friendly fellow at a gas station outside of Akron:

(while I have enhanced the graffiti using photoshop because it was hard to see, rest assured, it looked just like it looks here)

Nothing stunning, but I had to laugh at their need to tell us exactly what was being sold here (Belmont Ave, Youngstown Ohio):

Despite the look of this facility in downtown Youngstown Ohio, they are still in business - I don't want to know what business.....

Vintage (operating!) A&W Drive-In in Boardman Ohio:

On a rooftop parking deck at the Colonial Park Mall in Harrisburg PA:

Lastly, I have tons of pictures of this abandoned town not too far from me. I'm holding off on posting any more, or any more info until I can do it up right - right now I don't have access to add this area to your database:

Enjoy!

I went back to Ohio, but my city was gone. There was no train station; there was no downtown.
South Howard had disappeared; all my favorite places. My city had been pulled down; reduced to parking spaces.

Dumb question: are you with undergroundozarks? If yes, I LOVE your work on the River Roads Mall. I really wanted to get there someday, but it's really far away. I wanted to bring the clock home with me.

haha, I wish, but thats where I find out about most of the sites I hit, so it was amusing seeing a sticker from there.

Also neither that mall are the other mall in the area still exist, they have both sadly been demo'd. (was gonna try and get a visit there last weekend)

Yes, and no.

It's Byrnesville, which is kind of like Centralia's lost cousin. The mine fire took two towns, which a lot of people don't know. No one lives in Byrnesville anymore, however. Centraila still has around a dozen residents.

Got tons of pictures of both, taken over the last 6 or so years.

If you're looking for buildings to explore, etc then you would be disappointed. If you think it's cool to go somewhere and see streets to nowhere, cut electric lines, and the appearance that one day someone just sucked most of the homes off the face of the earth (as I do) then you'll love it.

If you do go, just be careful. Mine subsidence is a real thing.

I'd like to offer a disclaimer before my pictures. Prior to being bitten by the UE bug, I had absolutely no interest in photography. I don't own a decent camera, and am almost completely ignorant regarding the mechanics of photography. The majority of the images presented here were taken with my phone. There are a couple that I took with a bottom-of-the-barrel digital camera that my roommates had lying around, but those aren't of significantly better quality than the phone pictures. That said, here are my painfully substandard pictures...

Shots from one of two adjacent breweries. Luminous Aphid posted some terrific pictures of this trip.

A recon trip to the remnants of a lumber mill power plant. We haven't actually gotten inside of this yet. One of the people who had joined us wasn't really equipped to climb the fence. It's my hope that the next trip will bear fruit.

Here are some recent pictures from the flour mill (again). I need to get out and explore something other than this place soon.

The rest of this trip I took some bad video with my camera, so here's a little video I made using some of the footage. Sorry about the crappy camera work.

An old cement plant in the industrial district.

From outside, you can see the decaying cement around the roof, and the many oddly-stacked levels of the building. Also a really cool detail on the columns, a double-cross at the bottom and square at the top.

Oldschool masterlock!

Whoever wired this relay panel loved his work

Civil Defense survival crackers!

The bird ate the crackers. Don't eat the crackers.

If you do eat the crackers, this may help.

While you're not eating the crackers, don't mess with the elevator, either.

Love these old switches!

A little lightpaint, my first try actually.

The concrete ceiling was leaching out into stalactites! There were even stalagmites on the floor, nearly two inches high and four around! I think that cement is pretty unstable by now...

Don't drink the water.

Camcorder? Who makes these signs, anyhow!?

I've got more pix I have to process yet...
