Hey everyone! I'm a film photographer from Syracuse, NY. Just getting into Urban Exploration as a shooting style, but I've been into the concept for a long time. I'll be posting some work on my deviantart site as well as here very soon.

Today is your way out...

I'm Nikolai, and recently read about urban exploration. It occurred how great this could be. I'm still a n00b at all of this though.

Hi, I've been a member for about 6 months now (not exactly sure), but have mostly been lurking about. I've been into photography for about 2 and a half years now and stumbled upon urban exploration accidently. After reading into it, I became captivated with the idea of exploring abandoned buildings and essentially placing yourself in that time period (minus the degradation, though I like that bit too).

As much as I'd like to get into UE, Ottawa doesn't offer that much in terms of abandoned buildings and none of the locations (publically viewable) in the database are of much interest to me. There's also the parental factor, but I'm sure I can talk them into it.

Though enough of me rambling, I'll just continue to lurk around (maybe pick up a full member status...eventually). So yeah, hi.

So yeah hey, I guess I'm new or whatever.

If anyone's interested, I learned about Urbex through Dinosaur Comics, and was immediately captivated. I read Access All Areas cover to cover and began exploring immediately. I'm still frosh, really, I've only intentionally and conciously gone exploring 3 or 4 times, but I'm hooked, I plan to get more proffesional real soon, and I'm investing in a proper camera soon (by investing I mean hoping someone buys me one for my birthday). I've only done construction so far, but I've got a small handful of abandoned sites I want to check out, and some high profile construction back in my native Toronto (specifically the new ROM crystal and the apartments being built at my local Yonge and Eglinton are begging to be climbed around in).

So yeah, glad to be here and hope I can put something back into the community. You guys seem super high-fivingly awesome so far.

hey guys, i've known about this site for a few years, but i didn't really start getting into urban exploration until recently. it's a shame that it takes so long to become a full member, but i understand why reputability is essential in a forum of this nature. anyway, on with the intro.

i'm 21, live in virginia beach, and love photographing abandoned buildings, especially factories, hospitals, and schools. unfortuneately there aren't many of those in my city, although recently i have made a few trips out of town (eastern shore and various parts of north carolina).

i also like exploring underground tunnels, and if i'm really bored, i'll go down to the oceanfront and try and get into the indoor pools, just because it's a challenge. the hilton on 37th street is my favorite, and also the most challenging, not to mention rewarding!

i use a Nikon D50 to take my shots. i've got quite a few pics i want to post, but i'm not sure what the rules are on posting them without being a full member. i got confused about the whole location database thing. web space isn't an issue; i have unlimited everything.

i look forward to sharing my pics with everyone here. in the mean time, i'm gonna scour the terrain with google maps

Research about UE
<Reply # 465 on 3/17/2006 3:04 PM >

Hi everyone,

I'm a Belgian student and urban explorer by occasion. I am writing my dissertation (thesis) on the phenomenon of urban exploration. A few years back I stumbled on (off course) www.infiltration.org and realised that an old fascination of mine, checking out (often abandoned) buildings, was the subject of an entire subculture.
So now I study Social and Cultural Anthropology and I would to write my dissertation on UE. This post is a call to anyone who thinks he or she can help me with information on UE. Especially I'm searching for some academic books or articles about UE or an aspect of it. This is because I need to fit my research kind of in a theoretical body. Kind of a theory around UE! I stress this because I see that UE is a little bit too complex to be understood inside one analytical frame. Anyway, I hope you get the picture. Anything is welcome. I will also surf further and search this forum, but relevant topics can be pointed out.

Thanks a lot and greetings to you all!

Hey everyone. Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Mark. Live in the southeastern part of VA.. Suffolk to be exact. I've never done it but, I'm real interested in exploring. If anyone in the area wants someone to go out with, I'd be interested.

Hey everybody. I just found this site last night and had no clue UE was this big... or that it even had a name!

Anyways, I'm 25, live in Suffolk, VA. Never been out on a UE actually. Do have a big interest in old buildings, tunnels, etc. Like alot of people here I'm into photography too and UE seems to really go well with it. I mainly use a Canon A75 digital. Cool thing about it is that is has full manual control too. Also have a Minolta SLR, but its an auto.

Aside from photography I'm into offroading/hiking/camping. Of course I have my camera on me too. Make several trips to the GWNF through the year. In addition, my offroad club 'serious explorations' has a 'wheeling trip every month or two.

Seems like reputation is very important here and I can certainly understand why. I'd really like to get together with people in the hampton roads area to check some places out.

I stumbled on this site by an expanded search for information on picking locks (hence infiltration). I am a caver more than a UEer, but am very interested in this culture you all are a part of. I knew this hobby existed, but had no idea to what extent it was! This site is awesome and I have already met some very interesting people.
drkarst is the knickname I use. (Karst is a term for an area that is rich with caves)
As I read in these posts I see that the UE culture is almost identical to the cavers culture. The same problems and arguments occur with many parallel issues. Issues like conservation, vandals, access, newbies trying to get into the sport (we refer to them as "spelunkers" not cavers) There are local events and gatherings....The list goes on and on!
My career is institutional locksmithing for a college in Dayton Ohio. Hello to all the friendly UEers out there!

Hello, my name's Stephen.

I've been interested in exploring old, abandoned places long before I knew what UE was. When I was in my early teens, in my old neighborhood, I would go on expeditions with my childhood friends thought the woods. Since I grew up in a pretty rural area, we would run across old, abandoned houses sometimes. I remember there being about 3 in my woods. I've always enjoyed exploring cryptic old places, where no other human being has been for years.

I've joined this site so I can find and discuss great place to UE. I'm looking forward to meeting alot of you.
