Does any one know how many abandoned and/or closed buildings there are in downtown? I was there today and all I have to say is oh my god. its the mecca in los angeles. so many old theaters, hotels, gov buildings, drains, warehouses, ect. Some of the easier ones are under construction, but those won't be as cool.

depends on what area of downtown you're talking about; it has it's pockets. a lot of the theatres if they're not being used for stores are closed up and used for other things. also a lot of street level stuff may be used, but the upper levels abandoned. there's some cool old buildings in the jewelery district that are abandoned that I know of.

Exactly what I was thinking of, the cool about the buildings that have only the first floor in use is; 1.) you don't look suspicious walking around the same building three or four times. 2.) the noise you make is is drowned out by by the shops down stairs. The only draw back is since the places in question have power, there might be an alarm.

also there is an abandonment on the corner of 1st and broadway.

I thought you were from LA? Yeah, when I was in downtown LA for the Meet, it blew me away how many there were. Then I saw the Sears Store. That's OMG material.

I agree with both of you, the first weekend of march almost certainly works for me. Except that i can't help with the the location ideas thing; i am kind of new to this and it would probably be suspicious if lots of people showed up at any of the places i know about.

I think the first weekend in march sounds good If I get. Me and ghostkilla were discussin the old Nabisco factory. Its scheduled to be demolished by the fall. Does anybody want to try to make this a spot? Anyways throw out your ideas and we'll see who wants to do what.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, transportation might be a problem. Maybe just stick to downtown LA buildings for now?

Agreed, I would rather take the metrolink if I can, it's alot cheaper than driving 60+ miles one way.

I might have some pics of that floating around my laptop. last time I talked to someone from the historical society there was some talk that they might turn the building into studio apartments. if it's the same one I'm thinking of it's pretty nice on the inside.

probably not the same one, this building is hideous looking. but I did see four interesting buildings: the "pan america" building on 4th and broadway that is under construction, and three more at hill and 8th, that is for sale, broadway and 9th that is under construction, and 8th and olive that is for sale.

The one on 1st and broadway is a 60's-70's looking gov building, with an attached parking structure. the one you are talking about is probably the one on 4th and broadway. but I could be wrong.

A meet on the first weekend of march sounds good. but I think it'd be better to plan it a little later in the month. but before the meet get together in smaller groups and scout out new locations. So then when the meet takes place we will have more than one really cool sounding location for the group to go to. besides if we do plan it later people from up north can make it down. just some thoughts.

for now I can't do any exploring for a week or so. I slept on my face wrong and came down with TMJ(pretty much the non viral version of lockjaw).

certainly not the one I'm thinking of. the one I'm thinking of used to be a dept. store. it's a big green/blue building w/ gold/yellow details. it says "eastern" up at the top.

Are you suggesting multiple little meets leading up to one big meet? Because that sounds pretty awesome. I am definitely willing to go on scouting missions, and also think that they are a good idea. Are you thinking that they should be done in the couple of weeks leading up to it, or just generally that it would be a good thing to do in the intervening month? I'm willing and eager to scout downtown any time if anybody wants to pm me about it.

I guess I'm a thought criminal. but whatever. I'm quiting the forums so I suggest that you all take charge. I won't be setting up any meets, I suggest that someone else does that. Take care and be safe.
