Some test-shots with this cheap flashlight with a brand new 900mAh 3.7V 14500 'TrustFire' battery.
All shots at 100ISO f4.5 10sec

it's this flashlight: http://www.benl.eb...=p3984.m1497.l2649 It does not say "UltraFire" though.

Awesome! How about some comparison shots using AA primaries and rechargeables?

li-ions are possibly over-volting the emitter, causing decreased emitter lifetime.

Is this light supposed to run on one AA battery? Cuz, if it's a triple pack AA battery, it's probably 4.5V, not 1.5V. Just wondering. The li-ions puts it at 3.7-4.2V.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

The description of the object says: "Battery required: AA or 14500 Battery (not included)" So I guess one 3.7V battery won't over-volt the emitter.

How's the battery life of the 14500 vs a AA? It seems to kill 1 AA battery in about 2-3 hours.

Be interesting to know what the actual voltage range is rated for on that emitter.

If it's boosting single AA input from 1.5V (since it can also handle li-ion's 3.7-4.2V range), as it appears, then it's a relatively unefficient (and cheap) circuit.

I have some lights that do that, I don't care for them much anymore.

It'd be a shame if you paid more than $8 for them, too.

I ordered the headlamp version, and it arrived today. I'm quite pleased with it, I can't believe how bright it is. The headlamp, unlike the handheld one, uses 3 AAA batteries instead of an AA. If I have time tomorrow, I'll take it underground for a proper test.

And this is why I only get my headlamps from abandoned scrapped stashes and sterilize them thoroughly.

Thank you, busted scrappers.

I found a headlamp in the Cincinnati north hotel, 9th floor. Place showed no signs of scrapper presence as of that time. Still trying to figure that one out.

I'm a magnet for finding headlamps. Three times I picked them up, asked my group who was missing one, recognizing bands, and yep. Each time it was someone I was with.

The four I am now in possession of were found amid (in two different locations) tools, a burner phone in one place, and cut pipe, including some in a backpack. No corrosion, I think all run on 3 AAAs.

Also, I suck at derailing. I'm curious how the 3 battery headlamp compares, too, even if I have more than enough.

Not an incredible light, but definitely worth the $8 or whatever. Small, will keep in my bag for sure.

And this is probably stating the obvious, but it's definitely not 300 lumen. Here's a comparison against a Fenix light (PD30) that's rated at 235 lumen. Both exposed for 2 seconds, ISO1600, f/4

$8 flashlight

Negative. They were cheapies as well. (which is why I know something about cheapies)

Which I'd like to respond to with your own quote.

This is a thread about a torch. An "excellent 300 lumen" flashlight. It's only $8. Not kidding. It's not even spam.

Discuss the torch or something related to the torch or gtfo of this thread. Seriously.

I see a double standard here. Which is odd because pretty much all of what was said earlier already related to discussion of this torch in some fashion.
