I don't see any dick waving, to be honest. The people who use expensive lights seem to bee the people who use them a lot, or need to rely on them. Except Melbourne Cave Clan, who don't always remember torches, but always remember beer.

| | | Posted by Therrin Purchasing the light doesn't make you the end-all arbiter of truth and meaningfulness as far as this light is concerned. Likewise, me not purchasing it doesn't make me instantly wrong and irrelevant.
|
I'm sorry you have to hear this...again...but if you have no experience with the product and you're only here to make generalizations, you're not going to be taken seriously. I never claimed I am king of all reviewers, I've merely purchased and used the items that the OP suggested. If that's so offensive to you, so be it. Like I wrote, I work in the die cast industry, and the light has been dropped several times. Dropped into pits with sharp metal, and onto concrete. The outer shell is made of painted aluminum, so yes, nicks. This isn't hard to comprehend (my $75 Fenix TK11 has nicks from drops too). These lights still work. I've sold both of them to supervisors who use them more than I do, and I've ordered more. Maybe one or more of them will fail, who knows? Maybe my Fenix will fail, too. That's why we carry backups! Listen, you can carry this pissing match to your grave if you wish, but I won't waste more of my time. My initial objection was to your insanely stupid comparison of having sex with an individual with AIDS (as if there's no such thing as a condom) and buying a cheap flashlight. This thread is about the purchase of inexpensive lights and the subsequent review of those, not your lofty ego.

Whatever dude. Almost everything you've had to say about it is a generalization. Try giving some specific details yourself. I mean, hey, you actually have it right? (oh, maybe not, you sold them... hmmm) I can't blame you for wanting to get rid of them =P

| | | Mine showed up today. It's bright, supposedly 7W cree and comparing it to my 5W Hyperbeam with not so fresh batteries the little guy is a tad brighter fully zoomed, which is a handy feature. Light pattern and finish not up to the Hyperbeam but that cost 10 times more. Who knows how it'll hold up but at 8 bucks it gets my recommendation. Thanks for the heads up budda.

Running on a single 1.2 or 1.5 volt AA, it's not suuuuper bright. You might be able to put a lithium ion 3.7v battery in there and really ramp it up, though. In fact that "300 lumen" claim will be based the emitter specs under that kind of voltage. If you want bright and cheap on regular batteries, you'd be better off grabbing a similar 2xAA or 3xAAA light for around the same price, and there are plenty of them around.

| | | I duct taped one to my helmet tonight during a rappelling adventure. It started sleeting, the duct tape gave way, and the light fell about 40 feet onto some rocks. When I reached the bottom, the light was resting in a small puddle of water. I dried it off and turned it back on. Surprisingly, it is still working. In short, these lights eat through batteries like nobody's business. I'm amazed it survived the fall. I sure as hell glad I had my Fenix HP10 on me as well. I would trust that thing any day. It's a cheap light. It does what cheap lights do. It's also a nice little cheap light. I got it for the sole reason that it zooms and that it has an orange click button. We'll see if it holds up to my other abuse. EDIT: smiley fail [last edit 11/14/2011 5:40 AM by -insertnamehere- - edited 1 times]
