thanks exposfan, i appreciate it, and it's good to see someone understanding things so well

yes, people have asked me why i don't just ditch this site, if it causes me so much grief? well, i still care about UE, and you'll note I still post new photo galleries and stuff. I really don't care about forum politics. you don't like how i run this site? nobody is forcing you to stay.

Nobody ever said this was a complete democracy.

I pay for this site, and while a lot of you have and do donate (which I appreciate very much), a lot would have to change for this to become a democracy.

- The work I do would have to be divided
- Everyone would have to pay a fee (like taxes)
- There would have to be elected officials and stuff

Sorry, but I don't see this happening. I try my best to listen to everyone's opinions and make a decision that is best for everyone (see the UER Improvement Initiate for a good example of this) but in the end the decision is still mine. Since this has got to be the stupidest issue I've ever seen, I've made the decision.

kn0wledge: Bye! Once again, don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Thank you Av, this is pretty much what I was looking for when I started this thread. My issue isn't about the pride star in particular, it was with the fact that you seemed to give the impression to most people that things on this board are decided in a democratic fashion, when they are not. Not that I have a problem with things being that way, as the fact is that you do pay for this site out of your own pocket and do ALOT of work on it for free, I just wanted to be sure that everyone is on the same page about who makes the decisions around here. Thank you for being honest with us, and for running this site, I really do appreciate it, and none of this post is meant to be sarcastic in any way.

Edit:

Just to be clear, I consider this matter settled, and I will not be bringing up this issue again.

That's what I was looking for as well. Done deal.

Actually, just so we're all clear:

Av has said on NUMEROUS occasions (both online, and to me in person) that this site actually does not belong to him; it belongs to everyone here... regardless of whether it's his cash footing the bill.

But now, according to Av's statement about this place not being a democracy, the site really doesn't belong to all of us.

Now, that's fine. I have NO problem with that. If this were my site, I wouldn't tolerate 99% of the bullshit that goes on in here.

But I feel Av needs to be crystal-clear about what his intentions are.

If he wants to have a site where the rules are enforced unequally and some people have more say than others, great! But I think he needs to not try and pull the wool over people's eyes and claim one thing while doing the opposite.

That's hypocracy in it's purest form.

Alright, I think there's been some confusion over what I've said in the past and what I meant and so on.

Allow me to clarify:
I suppose you could say that this is my site. It would be nothing without all of you guys, which is why I try to do what is best for everyone, and what everyone wants. However, being as I'm the person who foots the bill and who writes the code and deals with the administration, I get final say on any issue.

Now, I will try my best to listen to all sides of the argument (example: look at the UER Improvement thread, that's a good example of a good compromise) Obviously, the "crazy" ideas cannot be implemented, so I try to find an in-between point that everyone is happy with, and I think I did with that particular issue.

The Pride star on the other hand is an issue that affects nobody, makes no difference, and matters for nothing. Applying "majority" logic to something so stupid is a waste of time. As an example: If 50% of the forum membership wanted to rename the Ontario section to Ontaw-roh, I still wouldn't do it, because this is just a stupid idea.

So, yes, I dictate this site, but that doesn't mean I won't listen to you.

Ya know, you always have the option to not put the star on your profile, so what's the big deal?

And for people such as kn0wledge, you always have the option to fuck off.

Simple question good sir Exkalibur...

If all that the forum had was a straight pride icon, would you be ok with that ? That's all I want to know.

"straight pride" doesn't represent a minority / subculture.

Then why bother to quote it and go *off topic*...

But fine, feel free to answer it Av. Same question to you as to Exkalibur then so you don't feel left out.

Gay Pride = Cool
Straight Pride = Not Cool

Black, Hispanic, Asian Pride, etc = Cool
White Pride = Not Cool

It bothers me that the public perception is that if you are proudly heterosexual you are seen as homophobic. If you are proud of your Caucasian ancestry you are seen as racist.

I personally don't proclaim my "pride" in my sexual orientation or ethnicity, as I don't see either one as being any one else’s business.

The making of such minor facets of our humanity into an issue as serious as homophobia or racism seems counter-productive to me.

when the mods stoop to personal insults, i think it's a good indicator that the end of the discussion has been reached.
