I would like to request that an "I am proud to be/OR know people who are hispanic" icon be added to the board. It's just for fun, and anyone can turn it on regardless of their ethnic background so it wouldn't be discriminatory or anything.

"Because there's no possibility of real disaster, real risk, we're left with no chance for real salvation. Real elation. Real excitement. Joy. Discovery. Invention. The laws that keep us safe, these same laws condemn us to boredom. Without access to true chaos, we'll never have true peace. Unless everything can get worse, it won't get any better." -Chuck Palahniuk

lol... it doesn't take a genius to see where this thread is going.

i agree with the point shane is making, though.
i think it's kind of strange that we have this gay pride thing in our profiles. I mean, it doesn't hurt anyone, and it's not that i have a thing against gay pride or anything.. But it just seems strange to have it. I'm too tired to elaborate right now, and I'm not trying to stir up shit or anything, but... whatever...

edit:

i find great irony in the fact that i misspelled the word genius.
*tired*

I thought Av said he was going to remove the gay pride icon a few days ago? I notice it is still displayed though. I guess this post is a little reminder?

Ahhh, so this forum revolves around what Exkal wants and not the majority or the members? Now I see... I personally don't care one way or the other, but I can understand that its not fair to single out one group and give them a speical star for nothing. Why not give all minorites (and majorities to be fair) a speical star?

my rats are humping eachother right now, i'm about to go give them some gay stars.

*ahem* anyway...

biz, that's basically what a lot of people have been saying. i mean, it's not really that big a deal... i was prepared to just ignore the gay pride icon because it doesn't really bother me... but i think that some people are just upset because it singles out one group of people as being special. In all fairness, there would technically have to be a million other icons in order to even things out.

Well I've said my piece in the other thread on this subject so I won't continue the debate here.

Personally I don't care either, but as I said before it's discrimination no matter how you look at it.

So there I was, in this creepy old hallway...

I do hope Av didn't reinstitute it on the whim of one person. I also have said all I have to say with regards to this, and my view that it's discriminatory is very widely known.

Yeah, I put it back, not because of what Exka wanted, but because I realized that I turned it off based on the whims of one guy in the UK who'se been on this board about a month and is afraid of the truth. I said to myself "wow, what was I thinking?"

Anyway, the icon is just there for fun. I coded it when I was bored a few months ago, just as a quick challenge (since it involved coding the star system to be user-choosable).

As much as I'd like to have icons for every group and religion and stuff, I really don't have the time to program this. Sorry. But feel free to express your beliefs in your signature / personal icon / personal text.

This really doesn't have anything to do with gay pride or hispanic pride or anything like that. It's the bigger picture of asking "Do our voicing what we would like, as a community here, make a difference?". Based upon ignoring what seems to be the popular opinion, i'm afraid I have to say the answer is no...

what is the big deal over a stupid little icon, if you are offended by it dont post here. We have bigger fish to fry in this world than worry about a little icon on a message board that, no offence av, if it disapeared tomorrow the world would keep on turning. If you are simple minded enough to worry so much about stars i think you have other problems. I just dont get the intolerance some people have, just this weekend my friend had his cousin in from calgary and he made a scene when he saw to gay gentlemen walking on the street. Its 2004 should these things bother us. I just hope you can get over this paranoia. Im not gay, i have gay friends, its not like they try to recruit me.

I'll no longer be contributing any locations or photographs to the database. Indeed, I've deleted all my entries.

As I said before, I won't add content to a site whose administrator behaves in this manner.

Exposfan, read my post above yours. That's the issue to me, as I clearly stated, not the icons...

yes, i was writing my post when you posted that, but i knew from the start these forums were not a democracy. I figure on here is like when in rome. If it upsets you so much the politics here just go and code your own message board.

Exposfan, you still miss the point. The point is, onec cannot call something a democratic process, then simply do what one feels like despite what the populace has voiced as their opinion. Doing that is dictating, not democracy. If it is to be a dictatorship, then it should be called one and not proclaimed as something it is not.

Nobody ever said this was a complete democracy.

I pay for this site, and while a lot of you have and do donate (which I appreciate very much), a lot would have to change for this to become a democracy.

- The work I do would have to be divided
- Everyone would have to pay a fee (like taxes)
- There would have to be elected officials and stuff

Sorry, but I don't see this happening. I try my best to listen to everyone's opinions and make a decision that is best for everyone (see the UER Improvement Initiate for a good example of this) but in the end the decision is still mine. Since this has got to be the stupidest issue I've ever seen, I've made the decision.

i never said it was a democracy, when i joined here i know that AV was the grand manitou and omnipotent being, but he did most of the work out of his pocket, i joined to discuss UE not gay rights, the price of socks in portugal or the length of some kid trollings cock. Have a look at MLB thier boards automatically delete posts about the team ownership and such. we are very lucky that AV lets us speak our minds, there is nothing here obliging him to let us do so. And jester i repeat, stop putting words in my mouth i never said it was a democracy, i knew it was a dictatorship from the get go. I accepted it and moved on, There are bigger fish to fry in this world than worrying about our "free speach" being silenced on a board hosted privately. I tell you if i was suffering the abuse av suffers i would have walked away from this. When AV does good 90% of the time no one ever stops to take notice. He makes one unpopular descision and the personal attacks start flying. Look at the hours that AV has put into these boards let him make a personal statement if he wants to. That gay pride star is so subtle that i couldnt care. I work for a native group does that mean i should have a little dream catcher star? i drive a pontiac should i have ared arrowhead star? I like the expos should i have Youppi! as my star (av take note of that one) i dont know i just think there are not many of us that would put the work in like av did let alone do it after all this abuse. I have never met av, Never corresponded with him but i tip my hat to his hard work.
