Ok, I'll take a picture. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to reach (20 feet up or so, plus, the siren is the size and shape as a big box of nails.

Sorry for my uber-shitty picture. I only had my cell phone camera. The siren was so far up I stretched my zoom to its max. It's about 20 feet up. it doesn't look too solid, but there were no exterior wires. The box is bigger than I thought (est. 7" long, 6" Wide, 6" high)
Suggestions???

toss the hardware store rope over it and jump up and down on the rope.

I bet a grappling hook would be helpful in hooking the speaker but you shouldn't mess anything up if you don't absolutely need to.

I'm sure if this alarm went off often enough either the battery would die (assuming there is one) or the neighbors would take care of it for you. Maybe a well placed pile of bird seed?

may i not that the lights LOOKED like they were on

Go at night LOL

It was strange to see lights that still worked cause everything else was so trashed, I just figured all the lights would have been trashed too or that they would have at least turned off power to a bldg. that has been abandoned for years...

There's a building around here that has had power on for years, as well as computers and generators, running water, etc..... fun stuff! As well as a hospital. I guess they thought it would help it look active still. Who knows.

With its pitch, duration, and volume, it'd be gone pretty soon.
The reason I thought of a pellet rifle is because it would do the least damage. Unless it was armoured.

Generally those boxes are thick enough that a pellet won't penetrate, even at the grill opening on the front. This keeps people from just shooting them out. Likely all you'd manage is denting the hell out of it. Although it's pretty rusty...

The siren on the inside is not a standard speaker like you would see behind the speaker grilles in a car door. These are more like what you would see on a bullhorn. If you could shoot through the box, likely all you'd do is crack the horn.

Only way to disable that device is to break the wired connection to it, if you can get to the wire. If it's an active alarm system though, it's likely there's a 4 conductor wire going to the box. One pair for siren power (switched from the main panel) and one pair hooked up to 1 or more switches in the siren box for tamper alert. No way to tell which wire is which... 50% chance... break one wire and you've either interrupted the path for the siren power, or you've just told everybody that you're tampering with the stuff (open circuit loop, instant alarm).

Actually, I can't figure why there ever was a siren. The place is a disused hay barn that's been collapsing around its ears. The place really isn't cool or anything, I just like figuring out how to get in there. I've explored abandoned research hospitals and radio stations, yet this place is so intriguing simply because it is harder to get into.

The whole siren bit makes perfect sense. A grappling hook is useless because of foliage's density around the barn. I'd get the rope all tangled up in the prickers...

I don't want to say sour grapes.

Maybe it's the entrance to a vast underground tunnel system used by the gov for nefarious purposes. Perhaps you've found a black site? j/k

We are interested to know what this turns out to be whether it's something really cool, or just some totally overblown system to protect a rotting old hay barn covered in rat crap and dust.

I'm excited too, but I'm expecting the latter. If you don't hear from me for a year or so, I was kidnapped by aliens mongols spiders the feds.
