God it's a fucking boyscout meeting in here. A couple of beers and we're all going to fall in holes and die, bring urban exploration into ill repute? There are times a few drinks and exploring are unwise but from some of the responses one would think we're all free climbing bridges while dodging laser beams. Ridiculous.

Drinking/Smoking well exploring is fun for me and my splorin' friends. We know

You can take pictures and leave only footprints. I take nothing and leave emptys. I suspect that most of you "anti-drinking crowd" are from the artsy fartsy side of ue'n (ie: photographer kids). Youve always got that little chip on your shoulders dont cha? I explore for the pure buzz of the whole experience.
My name is StIzzy and i am an urban explorer. Probably been doing it longer then most of you.
Deal with it.

and to all my peeps posting those pictures of yourselves drinking a beer in crazy spots, I salute you. Thats a pic worth taking in any light level.

quoted for truth....and I'm still waiting for someone to find me that study or journal article showing 30mg dl-amphetamine makes you worse at reaction times, alertness and over all activities in the realm of UE...

Probably will be waiting a long time, because it does not exist.

I really don't like fat asses who drinks a lot of beer and then complains about "that tight hole","that tall fence" and e.t.c
And yes, i've seen 30 year-old uer which was looking after another 20 year-old drunk uer like a mummy. That really was the lamest sight ever.
And the biggest deceitfulness - there are still some uers who drinks while ueing even if they're claiming on their web-sites that "Alcohol don't match with UE at all". What a smirch, guys!

Pot never made me want to set things on fire. Hmmm.

The only thing pot made me want to burn was more pot.

The way I see it, there is no right or wrong answer. Everything is situational, depends on the location, depends on the people your with. I don't think its right to have your friends have to go out of their way to make sure your ok, I'm not down with the babysitter club. If your going to get intoxicated, the least you can do is have a good understanding of yourself, know your limit and know the risks/consequences involved.

Everyone is different. Everyone reacts to substances in many different ways, some subtle some quite obvious. I know people that simply get chewed out of their mind, nodding and drooling at a t.v after a few milky bong hits. I believe alcohol is similar to an extent, some people also get completely lost no matter how much they drink - naturally, amount is a very big factor. So, grouping everyone together with statistics is no way to go about deciding an opinion - experience is the only way to really find out, about yourself and others.

I agree that exploring while rather drunk is a really bad idea, again it has to do with amount and the way it effects a person. If you're skunk drunk and stumbling around, exploring is a bad idea. If you've had a shot or two for some liquid courage, by all means - explore away. Personal experience, I've explored both drunk and with drunks (Whilst sober). Nothing bad had occurred, but it's a nuisance having to shush a drunk idiot non-explorer friend whom you at the time thought it'd be a good idea to take somewhere. I've only explored fairly drunk once, bad idea, luckily it was some crappy little house in the boonies - rather boring TBH, drunk self wanted to run in circles or play dodge the cars. Climbing things on the other hand after a couple of beers can't get any better.

As for the herb, I'll do anything high. For me it is a boost to my mental capacities. I am more aware, more concentrated and more focused on a task. My reaction times are increased (Lets get high and play some Counter Strike ) and my judgment is more logical and precise. The only downside I guess is I get rather paranoid, but that can always be a total benefit while you're somewhere 'ya shouldn't be. I just will never explore or do any exploring while possessing, stupid thing to do and asking for more trouble if you get caught. Smoke up, head out, have fun. BTW, I don't UE high always Just sometimes, if it's special.

It's all about the subjective, if you know you can handle yourself, then you know. It seems the majority of people here do not condone alternate states of being while UE'ing, that's great - you have the ultimate choice in the end.

Im almost 30 years old so ive gotten past my fears of police catching me. Plus hiding/sneaking/running away from police is one of the best rushes you can get. If i get caught(which i never have been yet very surprising, had a couple REAL close calls though) then big whoop. Ill pay my $125 ticket(s) and be back doing it again the next time I feel like it.

Depending on where and what was required to get in, UE isn't always "trespassing", and to make it sound like thats the worst legal risk is quite the misrepresentation of the facts.

Yeah, I'm well known for my photography... for it being horrible because many times I'm snapping pics with security a few feet away. I am an explorer that takes pictures. I'm more worried about stupid people causing problems than how a picture looks.

Hi, my name is Jester and I was part of the original formation of this site, being the second generation in my family that explores, and have explored for more years than the majority here (you inlcuded) have been alive.
deal with it.

It has nothing to do with being anti drinking, its about knowing when doing something doesn't matter and when it does. And clearly some people lack the common sense to see the difference.

How about it, Jester? That seems to be the only cure for your chronic smugness, perhaps after a few pints we'd stop discussing ethics for a change and just experience the inerbreating liberation of Aqua Vitae

Naw, the cure for my chronic smugness would be chronic failure, and I just don't see that happening.

I don't normally agree with Dsankt much, but he's right. And as an authority on drinking and exporing, or doing anything, I would have to say this: Stupid people are stupid people, some people are unlucky, drunk or sober, and some people are fuckin scientific. I will never say that I do anything better drunk, that's hillbilly. But, I concentrate better on the matter at hand after a few than when not. Otherwise I have WAY too much shit going on in life that pops in my head and distracts me. Too many and I say fuck it if I think I can't handle it. It is a known fact that I can ascend a 60 ft rope after a 12 pack faster than most sober people. Anyone that offhandedly says drinking and exploring are dangerous, is just as much an idiot as those that say it isn't a problem at all. Of course it can kill you and science proves your reaction time is 12% slower. Climbing ladders with 50 lbs of gear and an open beer isn't exactly ninja. No fast moves involved. If you're a stupid drunk, probably not for you. If you have some self control, it can be done. But you have to know your limits and that of your drinkin buddies. We've had to ask a friend to slow down in a death trap mine, he did and he was fine to start sipping brews an hour later. We knew where he turned into an idiot. No problems. I have a VERY busy life and not exactly always by my choice, I combine drinking and exploring so they don't cut into each others time. I'm 35 and have been doing it 1/3 of my life that way. Never even died. Maybe my time's comming, but I don't plan on ever getting that old anyway. I know sober guys that get hurt almost every time they go out. Maybe I should say based on my research sober people get hurt more than us drunks. The numbers would work out. Hell you can always get the numbers to cooperate if you're the one taking them In closing, KNOW YOUR LIMITS and that of YOUR FRIENDS. Have fun. If you are not comfortable with it, don't drink. For the record I never smoked weed, so I wouldn't know how that goes, but from dealing with friends that have, it seems the same as beer. Don't have too much for you.

I drink gasoline for breakfeast and beer for dinner!
Any problem can be licked with a case of beer and a few sticks of dynamite.
