Breathing Masks?

Do you guys typically wear any type of mask while your exploring? I've been a few places were the dust was pretty heavy... I'm not sure I want to know what kind it was... I've also seen places with asbestos warnings, which I avoided. So what do you guys think? Something like a simple paper "painters" mask, a full blown gas mask, or just use your shirt sleeve as needed

I use this kind. Protects against mold, asbestos, pesticides, dust.. just about anything. Don't have to use it too often though.

i only use a mask if there is lots of dust floating around, or if im in a power plant. the everyday stuff( even asbestos ) doesnt pose a threat if its in a solid form.

Make sure to get a respirator that's rated for asbestos. I found a perfectly good one on eBay for less than $30, and I believe that it was made by the same company that made pezking4's respirator, though it's a different model.

Whichever one you get, make sure it's one that you can easily get filters for later on. My suggestion would be the 3M model that typically gets sold at Home Depot.

I have the same as pezking4, and I use it when it smells funny or if I see floating stuff in the air, or if I'm uncertain of the quality of the air.

I have the same mask too... just with the larger metal filters. (I'm wearing it in my profile pic) It works extremely well and often I get so used to the mask, I forget to take it off when I'm in clean air.

Also, whatever you do, make sure you get one that makes you look totally bad-ass in photos. That seems to be the only reason why most people here wear them.

I have a sort of respirator fetish if you could call it that.
I'm always looking for the coolest looking masks, not sure why other then if you find the right one you could look like a total pro of sorts.

So my question is this:

How do I go about acquiring masks in particular military style ones, and full face masks?

I know ebay but I'm weary about dealing on ebay.... especially when it comes to NBC rated respirators.... last thing I need is Big Brother kicking in my door, because I happen to have ordered 7 masks with NBC rating from a person with ties to some extremist terrorist organization.

So bar ebay, where else can I find respirators?

Check Angie's Outdoors in downtown Barrie. You might have to check in a few times before you find what you're looking for, but they've had a pretty wide selection over the years.

Just try out any army surplus store. That's where I picked mine up.
