it seems as though you already plan on getting in to trouble and/or caught doing something horribly wrong...thats not a good attitude.

no one called you a vandal now..

if the personal risk and fear outweighs the rewards, then it might not be a good spot to be exploring...part of the fun for me anyway is the risk. i supposed what you're saying is that IF you get caught, what will happen. there are a few posts floating around that give state specific laws about trespassing. hopefully there is a spot to escape, always have a few exits scoped out if you plan on running. if you honestly feel you can talk your way out of it, go ahead...sometimes it works if you are extremely polite and apologetic..but as it goes, try to get permission to enter the building first.

All depends on what and where, I'd gather. You may not be able to be sent off to meet Bubba for a few nights, but they can still certainly, by all means, arrest you if they feel it appropriate.

Use discretion and think before you act. Preferably, meet up with someone who actually knows what they're doing and tag along before you actually go off on your own. There's plenty to learn, and there's no shame in admitting to being a noob. Hell, I'm still a noob. I may be moving up the ladder, but I am.

Like I said, discretion. Patience and politeness really are virtues.

Your only reason for going into abandonments is to look around, and maybe take some pics. Do not do anything more than that. Do not break any other laws. Do read old threads regarding safety, ethics, and law.

I'm 17, and i'll say that exploring is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I've met so many awesome people here in the Philly area just through local abandonments. But yeah, weigh both sides of the issue. Getting caught sucks, but most likely you'd be cited for trespassing, and nothing more. Depending on the location you choose, the penalties could be worse. Still, remember what exploring is at its roots, seeing things that no one in the "normal" world sees. Either way, have fun with whatever you do man, enjoy life to the fullest.

You'll only get caught if you think you will.
Just be aware of your surroundings and actions and you should be fine.

Security will only catch you of they think they will. It's a battle of will power and positive reinforcement.

If you are 15 and you are caught what happens will probably depend on the person catching you. I guarantee they will think you are some punk trying to vandalize stuff right off the bat. It is up to you to prove to them you dont mean any harm. Be polite to them, apologize for being there, say you did not think it would cause any trouble. If you take pictures a camera helps. The fancier te camera the better and a tripod will always make you look more like you are there just to look around and take pictures. if you get a decent police officer or whoever they will probably just tell you to leave. If you get a real pain in the ass though and they decide to arrest yu or cite you at least you are still a minor. It will most likely be expunged from your record at 18 or you will be sent to a slap on the wrist youth aid thing if its your first time doing anything wrong, probably both. Wost i could see is a small fine or maybe some community service.

But its like others have said, its all about your attitude and if you think the payoff is worth the risk. If you think you will be caught it is more likely you will be vs somebody that is determined not to be. That said, it is much better to be cautious than relaxed as well. Happy hunting.

It's true, if you think you're going to get caught you most likely will, if you're more determined to escape than they are to catch you, you probably will.. Just plan your entrance and exit before you go in. I've been climbing and exploring abandoned buildings since I was 12 and I've never been caught in my 5 years of doing this, maybe I'm just really lucky, but the general idea is to actually have a plan in case things go wrong. If worse comes to worse and you do get caught, just be really polite, remember to apologize for being there and convince them that you weren't up to no good and didn't intend to start causing trouble in their neighborhood.
