Made sense to me the first time, must be the autism kicking in...

I know I debated the 800 vs. 1024 issue when designing Wraiths, and eventually went with 1024 (partly because the majority of visitors were running on that res). I actually see a small number of viewers using 640x480... now those people must have lots of scrolling *fun*...

Nope - I never seem to have logged out, either. Except on my home PC, and that's not all the time, either. I'm sure, though, that your name doesn't show at the bottom of the main forum page when you are not actually viewing the website. You are simply logged in automagically when you come back to the forum. It's likely a cookie or something storing your information.

Personally, I find logging in a pain.

You can log out easily by clicking "Log Out" at the top.

Otherwise, your login details are stored in a cookie to save you the hassle of logging in again.

I think it was 1995 when i started using 1024... by 1997 i was pumping 1152x864 on my 15 inch monitor.

Now, I have three monitors on my main system. The main one is a 19" flat-glass NEC, it can do up to 2048x1536 but I run it at 1600x1200. The 2nd monitor is an IBM 17inch, it can do up to 1600x1200 but I run it at 1280x1024, and the 3rd monitor is an LCD panel that can do max 1024x768.

If you can't read 1280x1024 on a 17 inch monitor, you seriously need to look into some corrective lenses. Here is a chart of the "proper" resolution for your monitors:

13 inch - 800 x 600
15 inch - 1024 x 768
17 inch - 1280 x 1024
19 inch - 1600 x 1200
etc

I think that most standard monitors, realistically, you'd want one step back of what you're saying, so that the refresh rate will be decent. The typical 17" does not do 1280 x 1024 with a good refresh rate, but will with 1024 x 768... (not everybody buys an expensive monitor with higher refresh capabilities)

My 17" which I picked up refurb for $120 can do 1280x1024 at 75hz, which is quite nice.

A new idea popped into my head just now -- how about "Private Discussion Forums"?

What is it?
Imagine you and 2 others need to talk about something. If you use IM you are always sending the same info twice and there's a loss of communication. Same goes for email and ICQ/etc.

So, I propose the idea of Private Forums. Anyone can create a new Private Forum. Then, they can add and delete users from it. All of the users who are part of the forum, are able to see the posts / post aswell.

Example:
The UE group "Wraiths" needs a way to share private mission information with it's members. So Jester creates a new Private Forum, and adds all of the Wraiths members as belonging to it. Now, Jester or any other Wraiths member can post in that Private Forum (which appears below the category list on the main page) and only other wraiths are able to see it.

This can also be used for many other purposes:
- Forum admins/mods talking about board issues
- OFFICE PRODUCTS EXPO organizers discussing ideas
- Scheduling and planning

What do you think?

Sounds awesome, but someone like me might be tempted to make their own, even though they have no need for one. Or would it be only certain people who could make them, or something?

An excellent idea!!!

Just what the doctor ordered I think... That should help keep "privileged" info like points of entry out of the wrong hands so to speak...

whats to stop people from dis-allowing users who should see the private info from seeing it?

Ex: detriot(first name that popped into my head) makes a forum for all the montreal explorers but one day I piss him off. what happens if he dis-allows me from reading the posts? I would be out of the loop.

dont you think that it might take away from the posts in the forum now?

What do you think?

Well, as stated already, everyone might be tempted to make private forums for egotistical reasons. Prehaps you (Av) should 'okay' requests for private forums and take away the control to create one? Maybe that would be more work than it's worth.

I suppose they will just have to be properly modded to keep a gajillion private forums from popping up, like "Ajint's Pivat Forom For Kewl peepS".

Who cares if people make them for silly reasons? Only those who are part of the particular Private Forum in question would see it... it wouldn't bother anyone else.

As for the question of being removed from the private group -- that's the responsibility of the private forum's creator to decide. Any issues can be taken up with mods.

Sounds great AV, what's the ETA on this thing?

Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal? Its a natural plant that grows in the dirt. You know what's not natural, 80 year old dudes with hardons. Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt.

Yeah, I think that it'd be a great idea! But I think maybe the private forums should all be grouped into one area. For example you could have a link from the main forums page to a private forums area where they would all be listed. Otherwise we'd have this huge long list of private forums underneath the normal forums. Might make it tidier.

I'd rather see a European Section here. If nobody makes use of it, you can quit it, Av. Put it up for one month or so, and we`ll see.

I agree too, only U.S. and Canada, that leaves out a lot of the world.
