Are you being sarcastic or something?

There's a thread about donations at the top, and a button that says "Make a Donation" at the bottom, and that's it. It's quite simple: Hosting a website costs money. Keeping it ad, spam, and popup free costs even more money. Why should I be forced to pay for all of this out of my own pocket, when everyone is benefiting from it? I have expenses too you know.

If you're gonna use this forum, and then bitch about threads which ask for donations, you are not welcome here.

I've received a grand total of about $50 in donations so far. I've spent about $2000 in hosting. You do the math.

What is the bandwidth usage of this site ? I don't mean all sites you've hosted (ie sillyzone etc). $2000 in one year UER has been up ?

Isn't there any way of you of getting some money publicity ? I don't care clicking on the stupid viagra pills banner if it can help you! As long as I don't have to run my Pop-up stopper, it could be ok to have a banner at the end of the page or one pop-up, and leave it open.

well i've paid through the nose so that people like you guys can enjoy a fast, efficient, and banner/ad free website.

This is how it might look if I was forced to go to ads:

If you don't want to donate, fine. But if you bitch about me asking for donations, you can go fuck yourself.

Asking for donations is one thing. Threatening the board's another. I've got no problem with requests (the one at the top of this page of the thread is fine in my books), but your solicitations (this one in particular) delve dangerously into the afforementionned "bitching and complaining" territory. I love this board, and I'm sure we all appreciate what you've done for the community, but none of us asked you to spend your money. You put the board up (assumedly) because you wanted to help the UE community. Honestly, did you expect a steady flow of donation cash? There are very few websites out there that self-fund, with the size and nature (we like to do stuff that doesn't cost money!) of the UE community, did you really expect to be getting a lot of cash out of us?

Av, I would gladly accept a few ads on this board if it meant you would stop guilt-tripping us for money.

Anyways, I'm sure your threats (and they are threats) of putting any banner ads up are empty ones. I know you value the popularity and prestige operating this board offers, and if you shut it down because of what it was costing you, we'd probably all go over to the UEA forum or something. It's the price of popularity. I'd suggest you either make good on your constant threats by putting up some banner ads, or just, damn man... how long did it take you to make that little image?

I am forced to quote myself, because I've asked this question more than once now, and still never gotten any answer or acknowledgment of the question even...

tux... I don't solicit donations. That animated GIF is just a joke.

Like I said 3 times already -- if you can't donate, or don't want to, fine. No problem. Not everyone can.

But if you (not you specifically tux, just the general you) feel the need to INSULT me for asking... then YOU CAN GO FUCK YOURSELF. This forum is not for you. Thanks, byebye.

I don't guilt-trip for donations. Put it this way: Had someone else made this board, and I was just a member, I would definetly donate. Why? Becuase I've met SO many cool people through the board, with whom i've explored awesome places... I'd have no problem shelling out a couple bucks for that.

You also don't realize that I'm not exactly in the best financial situation -- I make very little, spend most of that on rent/gas/power/etc, so I don't exactly have a lot of cash left to throw around. Dickwads like allva don't appreciate the fact that I spend a good chunk of that leftover cash on this board.

Jester: The bandwidth use i'm not sure of since I just recently moved it to a new server, but it doesn't really matter --- I can't just go with some cheap $10/year hoeting or something. I need a lot of space (using like 1 gb right now) and special things like mysql database and so on.

My hosting fees have gone down since I moved the site onto the same server that my work website is hosted on, but that doesn't mean that it's free.

Did I bitch in anyway? Then why should I go fuck myself then ?! I just propose somthing that was not mentioned yet. And one banner doen't mean haveing ful of stupid flashy advertisement.

Before I give even 1$ to this forum I will contribute in another way by adding pictures in Location DB. The Montreal section is not really rich in term of picture, and I have already spent 80$ just this week in film and developent. And some of them: B&W were developped by me and the print were done at my home which means time consuming printing.

I don't like to fuck myself, specially when I make none cashing $ efforts to the forum and DB.

Does anyone else reading this think this is ridiculous? I mean c'mon. It's not a big deal to make a donation. Av is not threatening. He's merely stating the facts. Websites cost money. I, for one, hate adds of any sort. Even banners. Especially banners. I'll be glad to make a donation to keep this place add free. In fact I'll do it right now. Jeez, loosen up. If you can't afford a donation then don't. If you want to bitch about it then leave and find some flashing gif infested, intrusive pop-up crap site that is totally "free". There are plenty of them out there.

Chipping away at my patients with spam is not free. Not to me at least.

I plan on donating to AV at some point, but I would rather use say, web hosting space as a donation. As soon as I get my server going (hopefully before the end of 2003... maybe early '04) I would love to just donate him space in an effort to cut his costs. Or hell even host him entirely for cheap, with of course no ads, banners, etc, etc. I don't believe in that stuff either.

it's a nice thought, kos, but i require very particular hosting needs because of the dynamic content on my site. I also need a lot of webspace. The best way for you to donate is with money, and, if not that, then you can mail me stuff if you want

I'm sure I'll be able to meet your needs. My server will be friendly to ASP, Perl, PHP, CGI, MySQL, probably running off T1 if not better, and there will be TONS of space, not to worry, I plan on installing at least one 180GB drive, as well as an additional drive with at least 80GB of space. But hey, we'll have to see, time will tell and maybe it will suit your needs.

Sure NP. It'll be there when I get the server still if you're ever in need. Who knows, it may be better than that, depending on the technology hehe... but it's all good.

Hehhe go figure, that's alright though It'll probably be there in the future if any needs arise on your part. But that's cool, at least you have some sort of local type of host
