It seems to me, Anymouse, that this is the type of CRAP that caused UEA to go down and away in the first place... Why are you still trying to propagate that kind of shit here. The pissing contest you started has now turned into pissing the wrong direction in the wind and now you stink... Who the fuck keeps chat conversations for years on hand??? Serial killers and people with no lives... Let this shit go and get back to exploring...

In fact, you and anymouse have been allowed to get away with way more shit than we usually allow from our members.

When is this gonna end ?

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

Seeing as this stemmed from a thread I locked, I thought I’d chime in on the original topic of this thread – why I did what I did. Quite simply, the thread was a useless topic – bored people posting to it because they don’t have anything better to do, or it’s cold outside, or they’re not getting away from their computer for some reason or another.

I suppose I could have moved it to the “Other” forum, because it quite truthfully was not an important “Forum Issue”. Some jokers looking for the annoying star does not constitute a forum-wide problem. Quite ironically, the best way NOT to get an “annoying star” is to whine and moan about how you want one.

People have quite openly admitted that they post things of this nature because they’re bored. The thread in question was quite obviously a child of someone’s boredom. I didn’t see a reason for it to continue in the state it was in.

As always, all a forum member needs to do if they do not agree with myself or any other mod locking a thread is to PM the mod with a logical explanation as to why the thread should be reopened. If it makes sense – and I am very open-minded about these sorts of things – it will be reopened. I can’t believe it spawned such a hate-filled thread such as this.

Sadly the primary parties involved in this particular flamewar are denying the underlying personal issues at hand. You've seen hints of them. Even more sad is that fact that this childish mud slinging has to occur publically and derail genuinely important discussions on various issues relating to UE on the Internet.

Anymouse feels like Av stole his idea and has gained great success and prestige by doing so. I don't know what Av's inner demons regarding this issue are but I encourage him to stop and think about why this bothers him. The same applies for Skaught. What makes you feel the way you do about this issue?

Just like marriage councillors often say, the fight about the dishes isn't about the dishes at all, its about something much more personal. I am sick and tired of peoples' subconscious motivations and desires, insecurities and complexes turning productive conversations into crap. That goes for all parties involved, UER, UEA or otherwise.

Members of UEA obviously find UER a valuable resource and something worth working with, otherwise none of us would maintain a presence here. In fact the headstrong efforts by some of us to reform the boards originate from a desire to see UER avert the errors of UEA's past.

People here who reference UEA's collapse and subsequent return as an insult on our character shouldn't talk unless they actually know what happened first hand. Nobody who was on the UEA boards including Freak, Kowalski and Jester have made such brash comments because they know that it wasn't as dysfunctional as many of you like to believe.

This is my last statement on this sort of issue unless I see a grievous case of misinformation that I can correct.

Something about messageboards brings out the worst in some people, and personalities and attitudes that would never show themselves in person appear online. All the people that I have actually met are people that I couldn't get in a fight with in person - it's just the anonymous prejudices that precipitate fights (both ways).

This is immature on my part and really a waste of time - and I admire people like Obscura, Mr. Sable, even Reduxzero and Kowalski - who have the self-control to not get involved in it.

Please don't let Q, Scott, or myself represent UEA. Let Kay, Underneath, Fyrephreak, Reduxzero, Mr. Sable and Obscura represent UEA.

I am an asshole online - but in person I am quiet and reasonably rational (just ask anyone who's met me in person). I don't want to develop the perception that I am an all-around asshole, and I have always appreciated Av's work on UER - it's a crappy job and I feel bad that he is stuck doing it. It is too late for people's perceptions of me - so I would like to prevent myself from making it worse. This is beginning to cause people to get a bad idea about who we really are in person, and in turn not show up to our meets and such - which has definately clued me into how people are perceving this.

I am hoping that I can be banned from UER - as I cannot resist a flame war, and I rarely (if ever) contribute anything useful on here anyways. I have posted on the secure admin board and asked Av personally - we'll see.

In the meantime - listen to Kay, he knows what to do.

This was posted in Mike Dijital's Flame War Forum in the thread "Gen 1 Mods vs. Gen 2 mods", but I think that it applies here as well (I don't normally post duplicates, but I will now).

The thing with the internet is everyone gets a voice with relative anonymity, and so what's the first thing people do? Insult people that they would have no real reason to insult in real life. Why? Meh, why not. Nothing bad will happen, because hey, it's the internet.

Then, when people either make a personal comment, strike a nerve, say "yo mamma" one too many times, people really do get pissed, and they carry that anger with them into the real world, where people are beginning to forget that it's the fucking internet, and is inherently going to be stupid because of human nature, as outlined above.

Take this whole UEA situation. most of these people have met each other, explored together, and (I believe), had a decent time together. Then, someone says something that's taken the wrong way, or is interpreted too literally, and then pisses people off.

If the internet really influences your life that much, then you should probably get a better grip on reality. Just step back for a moment, and try to see the situation from the perspective of someone who has no vested interest in the topic of debate. You'll see it's silly to argue over the internet.

Also, when arguing on the internet, people have this nasty habit of saying mean and nasty things, because you don't need to worry about getting punched in the nose. If you're going to have a debate that will carry any real merit, it should be done in real life, where people aren't hiding behind their pseudonyms and internet personalities. Then and only then will a real solution ever be found, because when arguing in person, people have a greater capacity for reason and flexibility. When was the last time anyone ever really came to a consensus on an important topic of debate over the internet?

Is summary, all offended parties should meet up someplace, have dinner, discuss what's on their minds, and kiss & make up. Everyone will feel much better!

Sometimes, you need to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who it is you're talking to. Then, on your way out, slam the door.

That's essentially how we solved UEA's fighting in the summer - we decided that instead of spending our time bickering on a messageboard, we would meet every wednesday for beers. Has worked great for keeping UEA together (except for those who don't come to the meets, as they are still angry over the stupid internet things) - but UER has just become UEA's latest outlet for internet boredom.

I would love to be able to do the same for UER - but it doesn't work that way here - we are geographically seperated, so we can't meet up in person and look at things rationally. I am sure that if we could, every issue on here would be resolved peacefully (even the touchiest ones).

I am easily baited, and I bait others out of boredom - like poking an anthill with a stick. Just as you said, there's no immediate negative consequence for my actions - I just get to laugh at people getting all riled up, and people get to laugh at me getting all riled up. It's the long-term lasting consequences that are causing me to rethink what is going on. The fact that people will not show up to our meets BECAUSE of the Internet. It should be the other way around - people should not take eachother seriously on the Internet because they have met in person (I know none of us from UEA takes eachother seriously online anymore, now that we meet every week).
