Well, that's it then. I think you're shooting yerself in the paw. Imposing global limits on account of a relatively few incidents. I'm not whining to just hear myself whine; I believe you're blowing it, Av.

Agreed.

Don't mess up the LDB.... Please... It's the only reason I frequent uer.ca if I'm truthfull.

As 'Dukes pointed out so well - it's where the real community is built, humour, ideas and points of view flow in the comments without any stupid

I'VE DELETED YOUR POST BECAUSE -=I FELT LIKE IT=-

Nonsence.

there are some places that only having 30 pics is ignorant. i just posted 80 pictures of W.T. Edwards TB hospital in tampa after searcing for months i have found that there aren't any pics of the inside, it was never documented. I understand that we need to watch how much space is used in the DB but these are the only known to date pics of the inside of tis bulding.

It's just impossible to cover a monstrous location with only 30 photos

I enjoyed that location; you should have more pics of your crew in there. It makes it more entertaining.

Crew? You mean like Gilligan, Doc, Isaac and Gopher?

I don't have a crew. Its a one-man sailing ship...

Personally I enjoy the challange of trying to keep up to date on all the Location DB Picture postings and such... I find the more pictures there is of a place the more you feel you are there.

Sure I have come across some Locations with like 250 pictures and said "damn !!!" but i just take it one gallery at a time and work my way through them.

It is not a huge issue for me though because I have high speed internet access.. however I am sure someone with a 56k modem who has 250 pictures to look at will not be impressed.

If you do anything - I think the best option is to limit a user to only upload 50 pictures a day??? I dunno...

Anyhow, thats my 2 cents...

How about that "Mark all pictures as Seen" button?

I imagine people who regularly peruse the galleries hit that one whenever they encounter an unusually lame one. If stats were kept on the number of visitors to each gallery, along with the number who clicked "Mark all..." before reaching the last pic, then you could implement something like this:

if ((gallery is "large") && (number of visitors > X) && (percentage who clicked "Mark all..." > Y)) then flag gallery for potential deletion.

Would it be worth setting up an experiment to see whether this scheme could detect crap galleries reliably?

hey, mabey if someone does that type of shit, we should just send them private messages, telling them that they shouldn't. If I got a few messages from people telling my that my efforts weren't helping anything, just hurting things in general. I might take the effort to sort through photos, although I already do.

Sounds like a good idea.

No need for the sweeping and damaging changes proposed.

I tend to agree here TZ; as long as there are no bandwidth issues, and there is a "Mark seen " feature, then the point is moot. There is no need to change anything. Believe me, the guys that put up too many pics or shitty content get smoked.

Just ask Rammsteing, the guy whou put up about a million "abandoned Ames" locations. They all sucked, he didn't have the balls to find his way into any of them, and yet Av says "That's a legitimate location".
So If an old Ames is legitimate, well this is just confusing now.
No bandwidth or storage issues= no problems.
Leave well enough alone.

Alright, since this is only a problem in a few locations, we will leave things as they are, and then simply delete excessive pictures on a per-complaint basis.

You guys are acting like if you can't post all your pictures here, you have to delete the ones that aren't posted here off of your computer, losing them forever. If you can't possibly whittle a collection of 80 photographs down to the 40 best, you've got a problem. The best way to get around this school of thinking is by considering the LDB as a place to showcase a location, not document it within an inch of it's life.

I know it's tough. I took about 100 shots of a place on Sunday and cut it down to 30 for the LDB. I'll be putting all 100 on my web gallery.

There you go. I think that's an equitable choice. Which gallery gets the axe first?

And concerning the LocationDB star, if a user did not create the gallery, but DID upload enjoyable pix (and the ratings demonstrate that fact), who gets credit towards the star; the creating user, or the user posting photos?

[Edit: added 2nd question]

Exactly. I mentioned this a few threads back in a reply to Exposfan. Showcasing one's work is probably the BEST use of the LDB. If folks like my pix, they can visit the website to see 'em all.

Agreeable. I'm posting my pictures on my site, but i put questionable ones on here to see if people like 'em, if they don't i don't put them on my site. Although, i do try to edit what i have on here. If i have a crappy pic it's coming down, cause i understand where av is coming from, bandwidth issues and what not.

It works for someone like me Av. BUT I have seen the excitment on the faces on the more avid UER's and they cannot wait to post their findings. I can recall many times being bumped off my own chair at my own computer cuz the person next to me is now standing there doing the "I got pee so bad dance" just itchin' to get on here.

I think those that have donated to the site UER should have more rights than those who have not. I think the members who have donated should still be limited to the amount of pics they post but every 14 days is pretty harsh for them.

If you do not donate....you do not share the same rights and flexibility as those you do.

Fair or not fair???
