Palladium boots are cheap (50$), rugged, light, canvas, easy to maneuver/run in, and thick soled. And they don't look suspicious.
I recommend them.

Funny you should say that haha. Palladium Boots used some of my UE pics (with permission) and conducted an interview with me for their blog. I was wary at first because Palladium is owned by Vice Magazine, a mag that kind of caters to hipsters and what not, but in the end, I decided I really didn't give a fuck and went ahead with it. It was a positive experience overall, I think.

I dont think any pair of $50 boots is going to be comfortable to walk in all day. Footwear you intend to use for any length of time usually isnt something to cheap out on.

Yeah... so weird, right? When the Rep contacted me about some of my photos, the person had a Vice records email address. I asked her about it, and they said that Palladium is owned by Vice.
I don't even think hipsters know how to use a set of brass knuckles lol. They just sip PBR tall cans and act passive-aggressive.

I don't want to go the tactical route just because I think tac-gear garners attention. A decent set of construction boots I feel would be more appropriate.

Agreed, but if I am going to climb a fence, I will either do it barefoot (those boots are super easy to remove) or I will be wearing a different pair of shoes. Those boots are weatherproof (I did it, they didn't come like that), so I don't have to worry about them being soaked with water or anything.

fair enough, but unless you're wearing them with some type of "tactical" outfit, they just look like black boots....rather indistinguishable from combat boots or black construction boots. I actually think the only thing that makes them "tactical" is the soft rubber sole thats super quiet. The side-zipper is a nice touch too, but I dont know if that qualifies for being "tactical" either lol.
If you're insisting on sticking w/ construction boots then I;ve also has good luck w/ Dakota and Terra boots. Neither are as comfortable as my Bates, but the Dakota's have held up really well

I did do some pretty heavy use, went swimming in a river with them on, got stuck in mud up to my knees, went hiking in them regularly, and the only problem ive had was the crappy plastic sole coming unglued from the bottom of the boot. although, it may have something to do with me leaving them on the porch outside in the blazing summer heat, I think the plastic expanded and then contracted breaking the bond of the glue to the sole.
It'll buff out. |

I could only see it being useful in very limited circumstances though. It's not like CSI: Abandoned Amusement Park is going to be on your ass. But they were good practical boots.
By the way, last weekend I returned to this place

I had to climb a fence to get in that was about one meter high brick, then another meter of flimsy metal bars with spikes on the top. Numerous times I nearly caught my boots and almost did a faceplant on the ground on the other side or worse.

Vastly improve the comfort of an average boot. I usually wear boots if I'm concerned with stepping on nails, but have also done plenty of exploring in Vans or chuck taylors as well. I hate trying to climb a fence in anything but a flimsy sneaker.

I think the best answer would be to shop around and try on as many as you can that provide good safety and comfortability. What's right for some may not be right for you...
