I really love my waterproof Merrell hiking boots!

http://www.merrell...proof?dimensions=0

Look like nice boots, although I don't think they fit the OP's budget.

I have a couple of pairs of Merrells that I really love. I wear one set during the summer when I teach motorcycle riding. Easy on my feet when I'm standing on asphalt for 6 to 8 hours. For mine exploring I wear a pair of Adidas Desert Boots.

Plenty of really good choices out there. Just have to start hitting the hiking shops and military surplus stores.

If you can spend more, ($100+) on boots, you should definitely check out Keen boots. They're really comfortable, and they last forever.

fair enough, but unless you're wearing them with some type of "tactical" outfit, they just look like black boots....rather indistinguishable from combat boots or black construction boots. I actually think the only thing that makes them "tactical" is the soft rubber sole thats super quiet. The side-zipper is a nice touch too, but I dont know if that qualifies for being "tactical" either lol.

If you're insisting on sticking w/ construction boots then I;ve also has good luck w/ Dakota and Terra boots. Neither are as comfortable as my Bates, but the Dakota's have held up really well

Ill second or third the Bates. They are very comfy, lightweight & hold up well. I work around oil, grease, brake fluid & antifreeze on a daily basis & the only thing to go was the zipper, the rest of the boot held up greatover the 2 years I used them. They are around $110 for the pair I had (side zip, 8" steel toe) but theyre great.

Fof something dirt cheap, para boots can be had online for about $20 or in surplus stores for a little more. Or get any cheap shit boot from Walmart, they hold up ok for a few outtings. I prefer tactical boots myself since theyre strong & comfortable. I also heard that Converse & Nike have good patrol boots, but again theyre around $100-$150.

I have some of the Converse boots that I use for mine exploring. Very comfortable but I'm not sure they will stand up as well as I would like. They are starting to show wear a bit early.

I've had good results with two pairs of Wolverine boots. The first one lasted five years of drains and things. I don't know how often I wore them in swimming-deep water.

i've had wolverine boots off an on over the 8 years I have worked where I do... they suck balls. they come apart in about a month or two. Best boots I've had there (lime dust, caustics, acid) were a pair of cheap ass Survivor boots I bought at walmart.

Well, just got a pair of rothco jungle boots for $30 so they fit in the cheap category, gonna see how they feel & ill report back on them. I have one of their packs & its pretty durable so hopefully the same can be said of their boots

I tend to go safe with mine, but i'm also a contractor so the "safe" footwear is a must for me. I own two pairs of

With gel inserts. One for work, that have lasted almost two years now (which is impressive for what i do) The second pair i got for everyday wear and transitioned them into my explore boots, granted you won't have the best luck climbing with them, but they will prevent most nasty run ins with toe stubbing, nail stepping, barb-wire-catching. They hold up well, and if you train yourself, they can be quite quiet to walk in. They are a bit pricey, but i would stand by these any day.

They don't give me problems climbing, and i wear a 9.5 Wide. It's not the case for everyone though, i've been wearing steel toe boots since i was 16. If you're looking for good protection and flexibility, hiking boots are also a very good option. Don't skimp out and get anything less than thick leather though. There are a lot of hazards out there that can hurt the top of your foot easier than the bottom!

Boots should be at least thigh high and made of rubber
