| | | http://www.uer.ca/forum_showthread.asp?fid=1&threadid=10242 Av, can you tell me why you thought it was okay to post in a locked thread? And the excuse "I was typing it out as it was being locked" won't fly, I was watching it this morning when it was locked. Rules are rules. You've agreed to follow them.

| | | yes, i agree, but technically they are allowed to unlock a thread. so in essence he could've unlocked it, posted, then relocked(although he probably didn't do that) But seriously unless it is going to be unlocked, mods shouldn't post in it!

| | | Mods just want to add their own two cents to a thread like we do - just that they get to add comments to locked threads too... I dont think its really that big a deal, myself, albeit maybe second guessing the original mod who closed it, eh, not really that big an issue.

| | | I think in this case, Av's goal was simply to explain why it was locked and how, in the future, the two parties should settle their differences. In any case, I see this as an isolated incident since this hasn't happened for a while now. El nerdo... are you like the official UER protester?

| | | I locked the thread. Av was in the right; he didn't stick in some snide remark to get the last word or anything. He just posted a clear note as to why the thread had been locked. I see absolutely no problem with that.

| | | The same thing has happened many times in the past, as us lesser, mortal, moderators lock things without (adequate) explanation, and the screaming masses cry out for explanation. Ah, well. Any opportunity to sound high and mighty and cast aspersions, eh? Oh, and, Av? For like the third time, Sir, will you please fix the "You have 1 unread AvBoard Messages" thing? Please?

| | | The funny part is, all of you people who love to jump on me for challenging Av probably have no idea what the relationship is between Av and I. Av is one of my closest friends IRL, and vice-versa. I rag on him because we both find it amusing. Av may have had legitimate reasons for unlocking the thread and posting and then relocking, but he made no mention of that in the actual comment. "I have unlocked this thread to post the reason for the locking of this thread" would have sufficed.

| | | Okay, so Av, why not do this...I know it's been mentioned a few times before. When a mod locks a thread, have a box they have to complete with the reason why...and have that reason show up somewhere when someone reads a locked thread. It'll avoid pain in the ass peoople like elnerdo complaining about stuff like this all the time *grins* -Ex

| | | Mods are trusted with somewhat vast powers on this board. If a mod unlocks a thread, and then re-locks it, there's probably a good reason for it, and they really shouldn't need to explain themselves to the board over something like that. -av

| | Re: Mod once again breaking their own rules <Reply # 14 on 6/17/2004 12:23 PM >
| | | No, but they should need to explain to the board why they locked the thread. There's been a number of threads that have been locked for seemingly stupid reasons. Mods already have to give a reason why a post is deleted...so why not locked? It'd avoid people questioning why it was locked, for one. Having "This thread is locked" is pretty stupid. Having "I've locked this thread because it's gone too offtopic" would be much better. -Ex

No, I don't think we can. You have lots of time to waste on other useless pursuits on here, as long as they're in your interest. Some users have comments and (an acutally) good suggestion on something, and because you don't agree with it, it's a "waste of your time". Behave like a fair and just administrator, Av. It's clearly not a waste of time to some of your users.

| | | It's such a non-issue. The thread in question was locked without a reason being posted, so I posted one. What's the big deal? I don't appreciate all the nastiness towards me here. It's possible to discuss an issue without saying that i'll fuck with the votes or that I only care about features that matter for me. -av

| | | I still say Av, and the other mods can do whatever they want.. I've posted at forums where if you challenge the admins in any way you get banned. Just leave it be, it's really not that big of a deal. I mean they can post last, whats so evil about that? I don't understand how people can bitch at Av, even though he does this with his own money and own time. Thats my view anyway.. [last edit 6/17/2004 3:54 PM by Raider - edited 1 times]
