Back again with more dead things! First off is a partially decomposed raccoon wearing a hard hat. Although the head and jaw were skeletonized, the rest of the body was still fleshy and intact. There were maggots all over the place and blood had pooled into the teeth. Lovely!
On a different trip to the same location, I found this. Based on the size alone I thought I was going to have to call law enforcement. Luckily, this is a humerus from a pelican, not a human.
Reading through this whole thread had me spooked.

Jesus Christ what is wrong with that cat? I looks like a rat-demon.
In high school, before I'd really gotten into urbex, I found a large wooden box partly covered with dirt in a pretty secluded area in the hills. It had "Marley" spray-painted on top, and was about 7 feet long - pretty clearly a coffin of some sort. I should have guessed it was a dog from the very unoriginal name, but the size and shape made me think it could be a human. Inside there was a ~4 ft shape wrapped in cloth. I pushed some of the cloth aside with a stick and saw that it was, in fact, a dead dog that someone just did a notably shitty job of burying. RIP

Grossest thing I ever found was in an underground creek. I have no effing clue what this is. I didn't even want to poke it with my boot or a stick. Was some kind of white fluffy fungus with what looks like pubic hair growing out of it. It was in complete darkness.... 1. Edit: Spelling

I really enjoy going through all the threads, but especially ones as old as this one. It shows what it was like from when I first got interested in urbexing,to what it's like now. Especially since the location I always wanted to go, the gates rubber factory is dead and gone.

Wow. I was 10 when this thread was started. Glad I'll never be as old as you guys.

Yeah, it's actually pretty sad to see the sheer number of older members who's profile lists them as "last seen 2011" or any similar date. I wonder where they all went? While some stopped exploring, surely not that many?

I'll have 10 years on the site next year. That's a third of my lifetime. I made some of my best friends within a few months of joining UER, and I still talk to a number of them. I think some people have had families and gotten busy, some lost interest in the site itself now that we have Facebook and whatnot to keep in touch over, etc. It used to be that a group of us would hang out in a private room on Avchat, but now that texting and various messaging apps are common and accessible (when I joined the site, you had to buy bundles of texts for your cell phone plan...and we had flip phones...), and there's things like Instagram and Facebook to post pictures to, I think the forum thing kind of died off. The forum isn't nearly as active as it used to be, which I think makes it harder to hold people's interest.

After The building caught fire I went back in a week later and there was a giant possum that was burnt to a crisp

I'm still here...starting to get back into exploring. Stopped to check out an old brass factory turned into a soil remediation plant that I heard was going to be torn down soon. Might post the pictures in Northeast in a few days when I finish processing. I miss avchat too, but no one goes there anymore. There are times I stopped in and I was literally the only one there. Not even any Mods, just me.

It's like that every day now.

I remember when I was a child (around 8-9) my father took me to an old barn that was about to be torn down. We had to crawl through a hole in the back of the barn, and it was clear no one had been there in a while. It was all musty, and everything was covered in a layer of dust. In the center of the barn was an old Studebaker, and I remember looking into the car (the windows were open) and seeing porcelain dolls in the driver's and passenger's seats for some reason. Really creeped me out, probably never forget it.

Dead cat. We were exploring this abandoned area where people go to make graffiti murals, beautiful paintings. But we went into a warehouse next to it, and I found a cat that had its head bashed in, and eyes popped out. Likely beaten to death with a bat. It was a bad area in town.

not really disgusting or funny but more weird... my friends and I were exploring a long and large (biggest one in the city) storm drain the other day, and when we got far enough in we started seeing a "blockage" type thing near the end. i though it could've been a homeless person's house or something, thinking back to a steve duncan vid i saw of homeless people in las vegas who live in drains. once we got close enough to tell what it was, my idea was confirmed. there was a wooden bedframe with a mattress raised ~1.5ft above the ground, attached to the top of the drain with some strong glue or something. there was also food and a oven/stove type thing (how they got the stove/oven in there is beyond my realm of imagination.... the way the drain is designed, there is no way to get something that big and heavy in through the inlet or outfall). unfortunately i have no pics, since i've been going to drains mostly for the adventure, not the photography as of late. we got to the end of the drain and heard someone making an almost howling/pouting noise, and decided it was time to dip. idk why something like this freaked me out so much... i guess it was just the fact i've explored multiple other large drains in the area and have never seen anything like this. the good news is that this was the first exploration for most of the friends i brought along, and they all said they would explore a drain again so i'm happy i didn't lose them as exploration buddies!

In an actual abandonment? Two old moonshiners cabins that had A whole shitload of dead deer I they were skinned and all the yummy parts were gone. as it turns out it was a dumping spot. Not an abandonment. I was walking along the highway when I looked in a ditch and found a rotting dog surrounded by rotting chickens, the smell made me nearly vomit and I have a strong stomach.

A few quit I bet. Maybe some forgot their password or something? Some went on. But as for the rest, who knows?
