Noice shots Jono! You should get a few higher rez ones and... wait... no. Forget that. I like the blurried "slightly wrong" feel of your shots. It adds to the atmosphere. I likies.

The scariest thing I've encountered was this slouched over man in the York University Steam tunnels. He had his head between his knees and his hands looked like they were in their pockets. The guy I was with spotted him first. He was a good 200 meters away when we first noticed him down between Goldfarb and Assinibone #2 (one of the blackout areas). We kept walking closer and closer. There was alot of dust in the air, and it was obscuring what we could see, and the ammount of light cast on the guy from my Mag. I was sure he was gonna get up and charge us. But as we closed to within a few meters it became obvious that he was quite dead or faaast asleep. Still we didn't want to wake him, so we started to move to the other side of the tunnel to walk around him. Then, as we passed his body, we spied out of the corner of our eyes some movement. We turned and I was just going to club the guy. At that point we realized it was a pile of garbage bags covered in dust, and that the newspapers around it had shuffled a little bit when we stirred up the air there, creating the movement we saw. Still, it scared the hell out of us for a while.

It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pitty

A few years ago exploring Rosewood late one night we found lots of little handprints on the walls of the basement. They were some sort of dried black fluid because they had dried running, and they were child sized. They also had no thumbs. The three dead vultures in the third floor hallway at Henryton freaked me out, probably because I was alone when I found them.

Buildings have two natural enemies- water, and bears.

I was in WEM, in one of the tunnels that passes under a hallway, when I came across a hatchet surrounded by broken glass, and a garbage bag stuffed full of something nearby. Scared I'd wandered into a hobo camp, I took off up the stairs and waited a long time (weeks) to return to that spot. Finally, the curiousity got too much and I went back to see if it really was. The mess had been cleaned up, with not a trace of glass left.

A similar thing happened when I was walking to a subdivision under construction. I came through a heavy blanket of trees into a small clearing, to find a whole bunch of clothes scattered on the ground and hung from trees. Nearby were the remains of an old baseball diamond.

This'll sound lame but it was around Halloween when I was living in Sydney, Oztralia. There was a TV show on about the most haunted town in Oz, lots of stories and at the end the filmmaker spent a night alone in one of the abandonments freaking himself out. After that I decided was a perfect time to go do a factory near my house that I'd scouted earlier in the day.

I lasted about ten minutes before I bailed. I just couldn't hack being in a completely unknown abandonment all alone right after watching a marathon of haunting documentaries.

Another good spook was in Calgary's most frequentted abandonment the old YMCA (RIP). Mr. Sable, Obscura and I were exploring the building when one of us heard something. Then we saw a flashlight beam sweep through one of the adjacent rooms. We turned off our lights and went into silent running mode, standing in total darkness, whispering to each other what we'd do. Obscura had his tripod ready for some severe skull cracking.

After about ten minutes someone lunged into the room screaming. It was Anymouse who'd seen us planning the expedition in our chatroom but got to the site after we'd already gone in. He saw Obscura's car and had spent the last 15 minutes seaching the building for us, finding a new room in the process.

Later as we walked the hallways upstairs Anymouse gained his famed title of "King of the Air Rats" by spooking, and then throwing pigeons towards us. Having a pigeon thown at your head is pretty scary!

I was with two friends and we were scouting a recently abandoned ink manufacturing factory along the B&O in Cincy. I saw this hunched-over guy shuffling out of sight as I dropped through a window so I called out "We're just exploring buddy. Not to worry!" but the guy didn't answer.

There was a lot of stuff still there and we forgot about Mr. Moto in our joy of 'discovery'. We entered the next room and noticed this kinda bad smell. We thought it was just the shy squatter until we came around a work bench and found a very big dog (part-mastiff, I think), torn to pieces. Not little pieces mind you - BIG pieces. It was obvious that this was an act of rage, not hunger, and whoever (or whatever) did it was stronger than anything I could even imagine.

We all did that split-second inventory of our strength-in-numbers, our now-puny flashlights, and the few boards and pipes that were lying about ... and we left immediately under full sail, looking over our shoulders as we retreated. I was the last to go out the window and I was sure I'd feel a hand grab my leg every second of the days/weeks/months (it seemed that long) it took to wriggle about four feet.

I don't think any of my crowd ever went back there. The place never was sold or renovated and was eventually torn down.

To this day, I can't imagine how that could have been done to such a huge dog, much less why.

In 1985, on what was probably the last expedition anyone ever made to Van der Lipps mansion in Palos Verdes, we parked on PV Drive West and walked through the gated community with peacocks calling in what seemed like every yard. (peacocks make great watchdogs)
Passing out of the neighborhood, we crossed a little ravine, and started climbing a hill or two, when we got onto what was unmistakably a very old, overgrown driveway lined with ornamental poplar trees.

This was it!

Following a bend in the sweeping driveway, we found an abandoned outbuilding, following the drive to the crest of the hill, we found three limos, and a very well lighted and recently renovated Van der Lipps mansion complete with guard dogs. It looked like Scarface had moved in!
We about-faced and ran....

Guess that's what you get when you don't scout out locations, eh?

I used to have pics...Might still if I can locate them.

Behind the Sarasota Memorial outpatient care center in Florida was the OLD care center for the mentally incapacitated. It was shut down, boarded up, and a place I explored on a regular basis.

We went in one night around 2 am, me and two female UE' friends of mine. Upon entering the rubber room to show them (Yes, it had an actual rubber room, torn down last summer) we found a giant pentagram on the floor and burned out candles at each point. Red paint? covered the walls. We took several pics and took off.

I don't recall ever having been more scared than I was while crawling out that window, with my buddies on the verge of running off. Their friggin' eyes were rolling and I bet mine were too.

But that was the thread topic, and that's my scariest.

I've heard worse stories... A friend got attacked/bitten by rats in a really tight duct. He had to get those shots that are so much fun. That would be really scary too. The idea of rats leaping at your face is not one of my top-ten Good Things. The poor guy looked like he'd been thrown through a glass window.

My friend and I were exploring one of the buildings at NSH. We where up on the third floor when we heard an electronic beep/chime up ahead of us. Both of us looked at each other for a moent because this building hadn't seen power in well over ten years and no battery could last that long. After a minute or so we shrugged it off and kept on exploring the third floor.

Then once we had gotten half way down the hall we heard the sound again, except insted of ahead of us, it was behind us. For a moment I thought that it might have been someone messing around with us but then we went very quiet for a short bit and didn't hear a thing.

The building we were in was located at the far edge of the campus on the other side of the road. At the time security didn't even come around that area and cars couldn't drive up to the building anymore. Also the building was small enough that we would have heard if someone else was there with us.

Anyway, we heard the sound and decided to investigate. As we walked towards where we heard the sound, we heard it again back in the direction we where origionally heading. Puzzled we waited and again heard it, this time it came from a room next to us. I headed into the room when the sound came again outside the room. I decided to leave the room when I head the beep come from a built in cabinant near the door. I reached up and opened up the cabinant to find an empty vitimine bottle and nothing else.

By this time we decided to leave the building.

Outside we took a breather and deicded to head over to a nearby building. As we were contemplating on how to get into the building, again we heard the beep, except it came from a window two stories above us. Needless to say, we moved on to another building on the other side of the campus.

It could have been something, or it could have been our imaginations. Yet, my roommate also agrees that he had heard the sound.

There's my story.

That reminds me of the time we all freaked out because we heard voices that sounded like they were in the next room, kind of quiet and muffled. Then we realised that Skaught had bumped his cell phone, accidentally turning on the speaker phone and dialing one of his friends on the speed dial.

It also reminds me of the goddam fire alarm in an abandonned hospital wing near my house. The batteries were nearly dead from sitting there for years, but every few minutes it would let out a weak beep to say "Hey stupid, my batteries are dead. This whole place could burn to the ground and you wouldn't know it because I'm dead. Gimmie some double A batteries dammit!" Needless to say it took us a while to figure out the source of the beeps, especially since the echos made it sound like it was coming from different places depending on where you were when it chirped.

Ah yeah, when everyone stopped for a bit and was quiet, hearing those echo throughout the medical building was an incredibly eerie experience.

I just posted this in the Urban Legends forum, bu since we're telling stories I'll repost it here =D

===

Its halloween and me and a friend decided to hit up a local state rehab. We were in a three story wooden building thats allways given me bad vibes and this was the furthest I've explored it. We were on the first floor poking around when we heard a few creaky noises and just copped it up to old flooring. When we were up on the third floor, though, it definately wasn't the floors.

I was taking pictures of some old old board games in a hall and we heard something bang down stairs. I didn't pay it much attention until there was another couple. I put my tripod down slowly and we shut our lights off and stood dead still. There was only one staircase up to that floor so we were standing there starring at the stairs waiting. We talked in whispers trying to figure out what to do. It may be a cop or security down there walking around, and if it was there was no escape seeings there was one flight of stairs in the whole place. We were hoping that it was some one else UEing but no one walked up the stairs.

We made our way down the dark hall to what we thought was a open window to see if there was a car or anything outside, but it was just a hole in the roof letting light in. As we stood there dead silent we could hear someone downstairs. The footsteps were faint, but we could definately hear doors opening and things being moved. No one came up the stairs, though, and the sounds eventualy stopped so quietly as we could we made our way down the hall and downstairs where we saw no signs of anyone having been in there. Outside there were no signs of a car or tracks and we never ran into any other explorers on the small campus.

I dont know what was downstairs from us, but there was definately something. This must sound like a lame ghost story since its halloween but it did happen. Dont know who or what was down there, but it definately shook us up a bit. Not too much, though, as we spent another hour in other buildings.

I'm achin, I'm shakin, I'm breakin, Like Humans Do!!
