| | | My other vehicle is exploring... read as... sold the jeep, been working on the dune buggy... gf is working 2 jobs (for some insane reason) so... i have been spending the last few weeks on the dune buggy and taking some jobs working on video production.. on the plus side, it looks like i may get hired for a week or so as a guide out in the terlingua area, so... hopefully will have more new stuff to post in a few weeks if that falls through, will have new stuff up once the gf quits one of the jobs or i finish the vw enough to street legal it.

| | | Ah, it's good to be back in New Orleans. I already have my eye on one place just up the street from my house. There's three awesome houses two blocks down that I've checked out. After Katrina, a bunch of artists went in and turned the houses into galleries. Not much left now, but still some cool things (will definitely be back to those soon). According to my roommate, there's a huge school about five blocks away that she's been into. We're probably going to go check that out today. Now, if only I hadn't left the USB cables to my cameras at home in Shreveport... And my craptacular card reader won't work, either. I guess I'll spend my break between classes today searching for a good camera store.

| | | I had surgery and was terribly broke. Had to seel my camera. Buying my camera back in the next week and my ticker is back to good. So I'll be out there soon. Happie, wanna go exploring soon? I'm not doing anything this weekend after 5
And then, it asks the question: in a cold, uncaring, ruthless world of corporate slavery and assembly-line experiences . . . how is it possible to still live a life with strength, and passion, and with a soul that is still truly alive? |

| | | That must be the only way to go on tour: in a bus full of snacks! hope the drive doesn't suck too bad. Update on me: I'm thinking about getting a new lens for my Nikon D80 One of the following: nikon 24mm f2.8 nikon 28mm f2.8 nikon 35mm f2.0 They all cost the same but have different tradeoffs... main thing I want is a normal angle, FAST lens... Anything narrower than 35 is too narrow. Also, money is a factor. I don't really want to spend more than $400. Anything that zooms that has the features I want will cost me many times more than I want to spend so that is why I'm looking at these fixed lenses. Anyways, I don't want to hijack the thread but that is what's new with me. [last edit 9/12/2008 12:13 AM by RevSM - edited 1 times]

I've been looking at a new lens myself and I've done a lot of research, but I don't really know much about the ones you mentioned. I'm looking at Canon lenses. The one I want is to help with the sports photography that I do. And it's TOO damn expensive. Whats any opinions you guys have on third party lenses, particularly Tamron and Sigma? How do they compare (in your opinions, I've read the reviews) to the Canon/Nikon brand lenses? Not to hijack the thread either.

| | | When I decided to go Nikon I stopped paying attention to Canon because I knew that I would not be buying another camera body any time soon. The general feeling I get from Nikon versus other brand lenses is that the others are cheaper, still very decent lenses but usually have slightly worse problems with distortion - and I say slightly worse because it does not go away when you look at Nikon, it's just not as bad. The types of distortion I'm talking about is kinda important to the types of pictures we take, most importantly barrel distortion. Another reason I'm probably going to go with a fixed lens is because even though there will likely be slight barrel distortion I'll be able to find out what the perfect setting is to fix it in photoshop and just batch correct every photo I take with the same setting. It sounds like I know what I'm talking about but I would suggest finding out what you want your lens to do and then just dive into all the reviews you can find for the lenses that offer what you want. After that just weigh the differences - distortions, price, F-stop, and focal length and decide which is best for you. PS: I pulled the trigger on it this morning! I have the Nikkor 24mm F2.8 coming to me from BH photo. [last edit 9/12/2008 6:17 PM by RevSM - edited 1 times]

"In my opinion" - I use a Sigma 24-70 that works really well for me. Just for comparison I rented the Canon 24-70L for a shoot. The images shot with the Canon version did look better, but for me, not $700 better. [last edit 9/15/2008 11:00 PM by what - edited 1 times]

Speaking of me for a moment, I'm asking for a bit of help. Since I'm new in town and all, I am in search of some work. So if any of you are, or know someone in the warehouse business, let them know I'm looking. I have 9 years on a forklift and 7 on a clamp truck. Plus all the related paperwork that goes with moving freight around. It doesn't have to be a warehouse job either, but that's what I have experience in. It could be anything from picking berries to wiping old people's butts or to deep sea diver. I don't care, as long as it's in the $10 and up range full-time. While I've got your attention, I should also tell a bit about myself. I love exploring, I always am in the mood for more and I am typically the one trying to get the group to do more while everyone else is ready for bed. I rarely take pictures and when I do, it's just to show where I've been. I like underground, and heights and climbing. The higher and more precarious, the better. I like old architecture and old industrial buildings. One of my favorite in KC is an old brewery turned grain silo and mill. It has many confusing complex of rooms and machinery galore, as well as climbing opportunities. But just as appealing is finding ways into off limit areas. Such as the roof of Union Station and the pylons on Bartle Hall. So anyway, it's time to go meet Happiedaze. Hope to explore with everyone soon! (and have a job!)

Here's a better hint.
...and to make my day off even better, I found this little guy on the sidewalk. I hid him in a big planter full of freshly watered ivy. He licked water off the leaves so dehydration might account for his poor choice of resting spot.

Um, perhaps "hydrophobia" (also known by a more commonly used term) might be the problem? :o

I don't think so but after years of preventative rabies inoculations, I'm immune. He seemed healthy but dehydrated and drank water from the planter so he didn't seem particularly hydrophobic. Suposedly 5% of all comunal bats DO have rabies so it's not a good idea to pick them up unless you're me.

found cat--black with white stripes Date: 2008-05-19, 3:13PM PDT
Hi, I found a cat today near the arboretum. She's black with white stripes down her back. She seems a little standoffish. Does not get along well with children. She doesn't have a collar, but seems to be an indoor cat and went without hesitation for a can of cat food I opened for her. I think she's been away from home a while. She's quite smelly. May need a bath. Please e-mail me to claim. Small rehoming fee (to cover the cost of the litterbox and cat food).
