| | | Super Collider tunnel secrets revealed < on 5/13/2007 2:50 PM >
| | | The long awaited secret points of access. We all know the infamous tunnels had vents. These vents are all on private property too and some pics have even been posted here before. But there are a few that are accessable with a little stealth and large enough for an average size man to fit in. Some of these have been welded shut or contain instruments and concrete casings making access impossible. However, I found at least two secured only by a light weight steel cap secured by two rusty consumer grade Master pad locks and hasps that I wouldnt trust to secure a garden shed. But you'll need more than just a hammer or pry bar. Since the tunnel depth at these points is unknown, better have at least 250-300 ft of good 11mm dynamic rappeling line, some ascenders (you'll want to come back up I presume) reliable water proof lighting just in case the stories about it being filled with water are true, and finally you'll need some scuba gear, just in case. heres the coords, pics to follow: 32 20 11.14W 96 55 38.43N
32 19 07.51W 96 56 23.83N both are at least 24" diameter and have the easy off top disclaimer: this thread should not be construed as encouragement to break or damage or trespass on private property or kill yourself doing something stupid like trying to get in teh tunnels! it is provided for informational purposes only... | | | Wow, I gotta get me some of that. I don't have rappeling rope or ascenders, and I've never done that kind of stuff before. I'm a little out of shape and I can't swim. But if I'm careful, I should be ok, right?

| | | Ok heres the pics!
no number on this vent within a few feet of public road
each cap has two of these hasps, this one has already been broken
hey that looks like another one lets go check it out
hmmm says its #60019, same metal can for a cap, two locks and two handles obviously desinged to be removed
and look, theres another one but whats that thing on top?
says this one is #60018
this instrument was bolted to a stainless steel flange with a lever and indexing point, set in a water proof concrete casing, obvious care went into its construction, nuts were all tack welded, all I could find about this Swiss company is they make instruments like theodolites and surveying stuff so maybe this was a control point used to check and make sure the tunnel didnt move somehow??? Well you better learn, the tunnel goes all the way through to China and somebody is gonna have to be able to order dinner when we get there! (guess I left off the W and N try again I think GE defaults to E for some reason) [last edit 5/14/2007 12:44 AM by Explorer Zero - edited 1 times]

| | | we've attempted to utilize an access like this to get in to Topeka State Hospital, we popped a vent that was loose and it was about a 40ft drop into the tunnels, we had the gear but we never did it because it was out in the open in full view of a state police station.

You got the N and W mixed up. Something in this format: 32.33642N 96.92734W is convenient to cut and paste into google earth. [last edit 5/14/2007 9:05 AM by mogwai - edited 1 times]

| | | Lets do it! I've done stuff just about as crazy. I've already got all the ascending and descending gear. You would actually want static line for rappelling but I don't have rope that long... wouldn't want to rappel off the end. Who has the SCUBA gear? Seriously though, all these vents scattered about... did they seem to line up in any way? Also, I would expect that all of them have the same instrument on top like the one without a lid. I'm not convinced that they are for ventilation. Nice find though, I'd like to see more.

use a green laser http://www.laserglow.com/hercules.html it'll illuminate right down the whole length of the shaft.. or use this
its an accurate laser distance reader.. I took this pic in a surveyor store east of jane on hiway 7 <toronto, canada> Its on the north side 2 or 3 plaza's b4 the Railway bridge... I forget the price but the pricey ones can go far and cost like $500+ the dude let me play with it.. it works good!!
I will defeat that which was once untouchable only so that I may now move on |

I have two of them I use for work. One Disto Clasic 4 that goes for @ $600 and one Disto Lite that's a lot cheaper. Mine are accurate to +or- 3mm at 300 feet but the newer ones measure up to 600 feet. They're kinda finicky about needing a good, smooth, flat reflective surface to bounce the laser off and tend to give a 255 error on anything rough or irregular. Here ya go. This one showed up on eBay today. Buy now is $89. http://cgi.ebay.co...ame=ADME:BS:US:1 [last edit 5/15/2007 5:22 PM by Barry Kooda - edited 1 times]

Rev some line up and some dont I have only plotted 5 or 6 some are in fields with livestock so I didnt go up close to those and not all show up on GE because of trees and brush yeah I know I got the N and W backwards I know better but switch em around and plug that in Google Earth youll see 3 that line up theyre in a high res area the one with the instrument base is solid (filled with concrete) the others sound kinda hollow to me and Im not convinced they are vents either or what exactly they are, the caps are made with much less care and dont even fit well I suspect they were added later when the place was shut down and sealed up maybe they wouldve had those little turbines like on your roof yeah Barry Im stirring the ant hill once again kinda hoping bkbonehead would pop-in.. we could give him a MAGLITE and dangle him down there on a rope for a bit, he did offer to do any exploring we needed done!

| | | if y'all are goin into laser distance readers, why not just get some sort of seismic sonar equipment? if you are standing on a tunnel with something like that you'll know it.
