| | | | Any Louisiana explorers in the forum? < on 7/27/2005 3:42 PM >
| | | Just wanted to call out any other Louisiana explorers who might be checking in on this forum. I'm interested in getting some scoops on Baton Rouge sites or, really, any sites worth exploring in LA. I've got some leads to share, as well. Anybody heard of the geodesic dome near Baton Rouge built by Bucky Fuller?

| | | I don't live very near LA but I'm planning a trip to New Orleans very soon. I plan to do a little exploring and hope maybe someone could send some info my way as well.

| | | I haven't done any exploring in New Orleans (every time I'm there I never have the opportunity: I'm always with non-exploring friends) but all you have to do is walk around, or drive, and you'll see abandoned buildings and sites. I recommend, if you can, driving up the river road towards Baton Rouge. There are some abandoned plantations hidden along there and some abandoned schools and such. Well, good luck, or as we say down heah: Bonne chance.

| | | Thanks man, I figured I would just drive around some but I'll be driving through Batton Rouge to get there anyways so I'll remember to keep my eyes out. (Well, keep my eyes out the whole trip really!)

| | | Hey Wittle, I took a look at your website. Very nicely done. I was wondering if any of those places were along the way to New Orleans on I10. We're going to be going through Houston, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge. Already have a few places marked off as possibilities but if you could help out any more it would be appreciated. Also, are you interested in meeting up at all?

| | | Hey-hey, Wittle. Perhaps you remember me, as I e-mailed you a few months back in regards to the Holy Rosary...anyhow...I'm Cody from Baton Rouge, and I must say...The Geodesic Dome is fantastic. Ol' Bucky sure knew how to build giant, mustard-colored domes. "The Union Tank Car Maintenance Facility," built in 1958, is actually the 9th largest dome in the world with a diameter of 384 ft. Both my girlfriend and I would love to meet up with some other explorers and go out for group explorations (once the summer releases its clammy grip on the region). She and I have plenty of locations to share. My Flickr page hosts most of our Louisiana exploration photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vectorsnob I've gathered some of my favorite explorations into this set, if you're interested. I'm in the process of compiling my locations for the UER DB. In the meantime, let's organize a visit to Bucky's Dome. Cody. vectorsnob [at] gmail.com

| | | What's the deal with the Geodesic Dome? Is it abandoned? Looks very interesting as does the surrounding area. Is any of that abandoned? Looks like there is an artificial lake to the North West of it too.

| | | RevSM, Just let me know when you'll be passing through and maybe we can meet up. As for places to explore, I don't know of any specifically in BR or New Orleans (I just moved to BR and haven't had the opportunity to get out and explore much) but you'll see some sites as you drive along. Obviously, there is the geodesic dome near BR and, if you're up for it, there is an old hotel in downtown BR (the Capitol House) that is being remodeled. Huey Long did a lot of business in the basement of this hotel. It's empty at night right now and I've seen some easy entry points, but it is definitely active during the day. It's located right downtown, next to the old state capitol. If you take the downtown exit, you should be able to find it easily. Its backside abuts Lafayette St. Wittle

| | | Cody, I'm up for it. I was planning on heading out to the dome sometime soon, anyway. This upcoming weekend is not good, however, as I'll be out of town, but maybe next weekend or the week after that. I'm sorry about not responding, but I've been in the process of moving to BR and my internet connectivity has been spotty. How many LA explorers responded to your e-mail? That would be cool if we could get a regular group going in this area.

| | | As of now, there are a total of six of us...perhaps eight. I have the unfortunate mental image of all of us cruising around town in a 1986 Chevy Astro-Van. Any suggestions as far as a rendezvous? No bars, as both Megan Z. and I are under 21. Pfft. Cody. vectorsnob [at] gmail.com [last edit 8/8/2005 7:36 AM by vectorsnob - edited 1 times]

| | | Just for the hell of it since I am too lazy to email everyone individually, I will open up debate for this weekend. My friday is free. The rest of the weekend is booked. I would love to plan something for next weekend maybe? I have my eye on a couple of chemical plants I have been inside (on the job) and there are some awesome photo opportunities there. Cody, you could tear a place like that up with your skills. That sounds gay, but I know next to nothing of photography, and I know what I see doesn't compare to what you or wittle sees. There's also some huge old industrial building off of Chippewa St that looks enticing. I think it's still in business however. Need to scout it more. So how about it, any Friday night action? Next weekend?.... [last edit 8/18/2005 3:06 AM by Master_Shake - edited 2 times]
