Two EF Johnson model 5100 series handhelds. They're a cheaper equivalent of Motorola XTS5000 handhelds, using the same CPS programming software, cable, and accessories like batteries & speaker-mics, etc. They're capable of both analog FM as well as P-25 digital voice encoding, and come with an encryption module to 'secure' the analog or already digitized (P25) voice using DES-XL or AES. I used them for a while when wanting relatively secure communications between the two radios, and for listening to a few 800MHz police frequencies. I lost the CPS software for programming then, so I cannot read the radios & give a list of all the features they come with & I'd rather just sell them cheap rather than find the software & reprogram or zeroize the radios. The software isn't too hard to find on-line, or, you can simply use them on the couple of very discrete frequencies I've programmed them to use, in 'secure' mode, so the radios should fit the needs of both a techie who wants to reprogram them, as well as someone who just wants secure communications between two radios. By 'secure,' I mean the local police, state police, ham radio operators, etc. won't be able to listen-in, but the NSA probably can... Range-wise, I've gotten TEN MILES between these two handhelds in open desert on the simplex TAC channels, but in an urban or suburban area the range may be a mile to a couple miles unless you reprogram them for use on a repeater.
Both will come with a decent battery apiece, and one drop-in charger. $200, + shipping, or if you're in the Las Vegas area we can meet in-person. Send a PM if you have basic questions about these radios. If you send a 'real' email address, I can send you photos of the radios. /-/ooligan
