| | | Fantastic! I love how all the old tech is so... open. Like, if you touched it wrong you were going to shock the dogshit out of yourself. All the connections and wires and fuses and all are just out in the open. In more modern tech to get to that kind of stuff you have to have 2 keys and a 4mm hex head screwdriver along with the schematic and a certified professional.

| | | Indeed. I am pretty sure the engineers that operated this equipment wore some sort of rubber gloves to toggle the switches. The fact that this unit still works to this day is not surprising considering the simplicity it is built with. I think it's more of OSHA standards that made all of this go behind levers and enclosed panels.

is what is known as a DC rectifier. It is used to convert AC to DC. This is done today by a diode bridge, but before the semiconductor age was done by vacuum tubes or rotary converters like this one.
