| | | I have, but don't enjoy it as much. Mainly for two reasons. 1. Its a social thing - I enjoy the company when we go out and explore. It's better to have people around to chat and pass the time with. 2. Comfort/security - I tend to find that when I explore alone EVERYTHING takes me twice as long to do. I spend double the time checking I'm not about to get busted, there's no pir's etc than when I've got company. I'm ALWAYS on edge if I'm by myself. Suppose it's due to the fact that if it fucks up its solely on my shoulders. So yeah I'd say there's a comfort level in having a second pair of eyes with you. Even if it is balls to the wall and the first time you're doing it. A second person can make the difference. Also worth noting..... trust the people you explore with. You don't trust them, don't explore with them. Can't say that enough [last edit 3/21/2011 11:27 AM by Sledgy - edited 1 times]

| | | I have only gone out with other people once, and it was definitely different...plus we were drunk. I agree that exploring alone is much more meditative, and I honestly feel safer. I'm kind of terrified of bringing someone to one of these places and them getting hurt, arrested, or worse. It's quieter too

This. As a mom of two small kids, the utter silence of an empty place is a balm for my battered brain. Of course, then every single creaking floorboard and shifting roof tile is amplified and scares the crap out of me.

| | | As of now, I'm limited to being alone. My neighbors are fat and lazy and my friends live too far away. The only positive I can think of is that if I happen to find a stash of money, I don't need to share. >:D [last edit 6/21/2011 7:57 PM by HipsterKitty - edited 1 times]

| | | always. The smaller the group the less chance there is of getting caught. You should NEVER go with a partner, if they are caught by police then they will sell you out. You are only as fast as your slowest member, unless you want to leave members of your group behind. You are also a lot quieter when you are on your own as there is no one to talk to. ESPECIALLY not in a building where you could get injured or die, your partner does not need to see that. Also, NEVER tell anyone that you are going out exploring, you don't want people to find out about our hobby. They are ignorant and will just call the police. [/bad advice]

| | | I've almost always explored alone, until I figured out that other people at school like the tunnels, too, and I ended up exploring a bit with them. But now that school's over, I'm stuck solo. The largest group I've ever explored with is two other people. More than that, I think, would be a bit too loud and awkward for active infiltration. Might work for abandoned places, though.

| | | Not long ago someone posted a story here on UER about someone who was found alone by a K9 unit and they let the dog loose on him unprovoked. If the cop feels like doing it, you can't win. Having someone there to back up your side of the story would make cops think twice before breaking protocol and roughing you up. It also helps in court- even if the two of you have reason to lie, it's much more credible than one person's story as long as you don't contradict each other.

This is true, when I am going someplace sheisty, I try to bring a friend. If I feel like it will be a pretty easy, unnoticeable, non-dangerous explore, I don't mind doing it alone.

| | | I went into an old hardware tool manufacturing factory alone at night, full of fresh hobo camps, just to work on one photo. It was very intense, but a great way to reinvent the same old exploring experience.

| | | Always alone. Me some ronery. I wouldn't take my friends into a subway or drains, I don't want to put them into dangerous situations. If anything happened at all I'd feel responsible. I'd be willing to go with any uer.ca pros, though, but I don't think anyone trusts me.

| | | I did a very large very old psych center alone one night.. I almost shit my pants a few times =p Was expecting a face to just appear in front of me screaming at any moment, place felt haunted as shit. Dungeons in the basement, electro shock machines... Scary as hell, but not too safe either, entire rooms had the floors rotted out, and it was 6 stories high. Generally speaking, I don't do anything alone anymore

| | | The first "major place" I did I went alone at night. Sort creepy... got freaked out about an hour into the place when I heard coughing. After that I decided to only go alone during the day and if there are few risks like weak floors that I could encounter.
Im just really bored all the time... http://www.flickr.com/photos/rage2177/ |
