| | Return to the Zombie Hospital of Horrors < on 8/21/2010 12:42 AM >
| | | So about a year ago I made this thread here http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=70850. In honor of my one year anniversary on these forums, I decided to revisit the place that scared the everliving shit out of me. This time would be different. I was certain of that. Afterall, these transient types don't stay at one location for an entire YEAR. Going at night was out, too. A - because I don't have very good flashlights, B - because I wanted to get some natural light in my shots on the top two floors, and C - Because this place still scares the everliving shit out of me. The cohort who would be accompanying me would be different too. Out was the Joe Dirt wannabe who ran at the first sign of danger. In was my good buddy who has been with me in a couple of skirmishes at the basketball court and bars. Yeah, nobody would screw with us. We have tattoos, and cut off shirts, and wear camouflage... YEEHAW! So we arrived at the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cab, "Yo Homes, smell you later!" Oh shit, wait, no, that's the Fresh Prince lyrics. We actually got there about 5:30 in the P.M. The place has taken a real beating in a year. Lots more windows busted out, though no new graffiti.
My loyal buddy, who doesn't care a thing about exploring abandoned hospitals and had been making fun of me the entire way for "being such a woman about a damned old building", said "Wow, shit... pretty creepy." We go in, look around the ground floor level, answer a couple of text messages, get my camera stuff out... the usual stuff. Everything looks cool, and again, my friend starts calling me a woman. The inside was super trashed compared to last year, though. The scrappers have really been busy. I took a couple of uninteresting snapshots of things I had photographed last year - but what I really wanted to get to was the basement and top level.
Time to make our way down the hallway that leads to the stairwells.
In front of every one of those chairs were big chunks of wall taken out. They even brought in a ladder to get up to the ceiling, which looked 100x worse than it did last year. Much like my protégé I had with me last year, my friend who was ready to get all Steven Segal on any intruders a few minutes ago, was now creeping along - shining a flashlight into every corner of every room and hallway... of which there are more than a few. It should be noted that once you enter the hallway, it's dark. Like, really dark. We made our way to the end of the hallway. It lead us into a large, open room with a staircase that I've never used to the right, and more hospital along with the staircase I went down last year to the left. My buddy went in first, shining his flashlight into the dark rooms and up into the ceiling, but not at the floor. He should have.
Luckily for him, he didn't step on any of them. We got out of that area, and made our way into the stairwell, which was 100%, can't see shit, blacker than black. We go down about 4 steps and, same as last year, my buddy raises up his hand and tells me to, "Shhh." Voices. Multiple. Fuck. We backtrack to the open area with the organ and talk things over. He asked me the same thing I've wondered for a year now. What kind of people would live in this place? It's totally dark, it smells like pee, and well... I don't really need a third one do I? I asked him if he wanted to go check it out and he said not really. I didn't either. So we left.... feeling a little less like men. This was my last trip. This hospital is wrong.

| | | This looks amazing! We have have two hospitals in two, both supposedly haunted, but this one looks...i dont know, but something seems wrong with it. Also you're story was great. Very funny, and I have been in a similar situation. Being called a lady then having one of my "big tough" friends, get scared shitless. I will post that story when we go back to that place during the event here in chattanooga.

| | | That place looks like a bunker from the outside. Some architects just like the aesthetics of bunkers, I guess.

I knew I'd stumble into a goon here sooner or later.

Thank you so much! This has been such an active year for me, and photography has played a key role. I would like to think I've gotten better at what I love doing, but it's great to hear it from others.

| | | Wow nice! I love your pictures... and it was nice to read a really good write up about your trip. It really helps contribute to what the 'feel' and energy of this place was like. Similar thing happened to me once in a hospital. It was an old Army hospital, and the first time I went in, I heard shuffling noises and sounded like people whispering. It was like the 'Others' on Lost, no joke. So we wanted to keep looking around so we just turned down a different hall, away from the sounds and voices, only to hear them coming from in front of us again. We turned back, there too... That's when we took off. My second time there wasn't quite so scary, and third time was a bit creepy, but not as bad as the first time.

| | | So, I've gotten lots of PMs about people wanting to meet up and go out here as a big group. I would really like to see the rest of the hospital, but I don't want to get involved in a 6 vs 2 like last time, so a group works for me. As it stands I've got about 8 or 9 people who are regular posters here that want to go. Anyone down for a mass zombie meetup in the next couple of weeks? From DFW it would be about a 2.5 hour drive.

Anybody see the movie "The Road"? Maybe this is a situation like the man and his son discovered in the basement of that house! By the way, if you HAVEN'T seen "The Road", go out of your way to do so immediately. Excellent post-apocalyptic film...it's quite believable, unlike most other sensationalist, Hollywooded-up films on that theme.

It is a great movie...kinda depressing but still very believable and very well done! Loved it! Hopefully this won't end up the same way though lol

I was going to rent that very movie tonight, but the video store was out. On the topic of a meetup - How does one of the next upcoming Saturdays sound? If not this one, then the one after that?
