this "foundation" outside the main entrance of York Redoubt is actually the roof of the Oil Store. It was just a simple rectangular building used to store barrels of oil.

Cool, good to get some history on it. You can see where the door is filled in near the driveway for the park.

Posted by PargatesIt was buried when the fort became a historic site, for the same reason as the laboratory and other features

Where might this buried laboratory be? If it's within the park, I have an idea of where it was.

The laboratory is the main room in the section of the walls that are buried, just south of the passageway through the wall to the lower fort. It's where they mixed the powder to fill the shells before they came ready-made.

Ohh, the individual powder magazines for the RML's. Yeah, I know where they're at. A vent above one of the doorways is actually visible on the hill.

You mean the rooms between the gun emplacements?

The tunnel to the lower half of the fort by the cartridge room, the first couple meters are lined with plywood and if you knock on it, it echoes, any ideas as to what they've covered up?

No, the laboratory (and some other rooms) are north of the RML gun emplacements and the passage to the lower fort.

This is a picture of the area when it was in use:

And this is what it looks like today:

The small building off the the left was probably demolished, but the rest is all still there under the earth.

Ohh, ok. That smaller building wasn't demolished. It's the white shack next to the wall just before you go over the hill towards the church.

As did I, it's pretty sweet to finally get some answers about YR.

Well there is a way, but it's illegal...and I'd rather not be part of that.

But of course, lol.

But to get back on topic: does anybody have or know of any photos from inside Cambridge Battery?
