Toward the search lights? Or right down on the water?

I looked on google maps, there is a pretty much a straight line going from the foundation to the church outside the walls. Was this a military church for YR at one point in time? Could it go there?

It's possible, but unfortunately, I don't know anything about the church. Nor have I ever been inside it.

I'd very much like to find a way into this bunker though.

Looks like it'll have to wait until the snow melts and its not wet, it was pretty dry out when i took those pictures and there's still water in the bunker

I'm going to hook up some sort of high powered LED light on a stick next time I'm down to YR, maybe that way when i take more pictures of the bunker, the door will be clear and lit up. Hopefully its open, might help determine direction of tunnel and therefore entrance.

Well, I guess this would be a good time to mention that I have a pretty powerful fluorescent long bulb in my car. I need to find a proper plug-in for it so I can turn it into a light stick.

Thing is: I've been constantly looking at your photos Jonnie, and comparing them to the GE satmap of York Redoubt, and it almost looks as if that doorway might lead into a separate room. The room in the photos appear to be square, whereas the roof section is a rectangle. So if there is in fact a tunnel, it would most likely be either under where the vent was or in the next room. That's my take on it.

I completely agree. I'm taking a run out there on Saturday depending on the weather situation just to take a peek at the top as well as the surrounding area. I'll have my camera with me, so if anything of interest is there, I'll be able to snap it.

Definitely, N250cc might be joining me as well. I won't know for sure if I'll be going out until Friday though. PM me Friday.

Environment Canada claims sun with periods of snow, approx -4 deg. more or less what we've been having for the last couple days.

I don't trust anything that any weather forecaster tells me, lol. Take it as it comes.

In this case, we're taking the ridiculously cold wind today.

No good for on the water.

When we did the fish plant in New Harbour a few year back, it was ~-20° with a windchill handy ~-30°.. Coldest day ever, right on the ocean.

We did Teleglobe during the winter too, maybe it was the same day even, but it's not on the coast and was a little warmer, but the cold hike in and out wore us out pretty quick.

Exploring in the winter in Canada is great if you're dressed for the weather. Invest in long underwear is the advice I give.

Well since you say that, I'll give these links (they're thermal underwear):

I've heard nothing but good things about Under Armour. I've got some knockoffs that're pretty good nd lots of Stanfield's.

I just tend to avoid doing any outside activities during winter, lol. I hate the cold. And the only two things snow is good for is coasting and drifting.

Also, outside the main entrance of york redoubt there is bunker that just looks like a foundation. I got a few pics inside, it looks like there's a doorway?

First pic, you can see the 'ceiling' of the bunker among the bushes and trees.

Last pic, you can see the doorway.

I was up looking at this thing earlier today, it's flooded up to about three or four feet below the air vent.

Old thread, but... this "foundation" outside the main entrance of York Redoubt is actually the roof of the Oil Store. It was just a simple rectangular building used to store barrels of oil.

It was buried when the fort became a historic site, for the same reason as the laboratory and other features - it was already badly deteriorated 40 years ago, and burying it meant no-one would be hurt by falling bricks and it would be somewhat preserved. Better than using it for demolition training!
