But are there any atlas silos left?

Yes. You can go SCUBA diving in one outside of Abilene, TX. Temp is like 50 degrees year round. brrrrrrrr.

Are you referring to the test silos out at Vandy in CA? After the tunnels were destroyed, part of the US/USSR arms control agreement was that all 54 active duty Titan II silos be imploded and verified by Russian arms inspectors.

That's right! On all counts.

Well let's do it then! I am just not that familiar with the Tucson area. Anybody have some locations that we can hit up? I think we can easily turn this into a Saturday and Sunday thing. PM me with ideas and I will add them to the event page.

I will also try and find something for us to do Saturday afternoon/night.

I often get to chat with the folks in the UAPD and they say absolutely no warnings... they'll charge you with trespassing on the spot if they catch you.

If you know a discrete way in, etc etc, I'm game - especially if it's anywhere near adventureland!

We will talk about it as a group when we all get together, this may too hardcore for some. I doubt the out of town folks will want to risk getting locked up. I've got a few more ideas that are more low key.

when I was a juvenile of course. Used to goto Tucson high right on the corner of campus..

BTW is this the hole required to fit through to enter ?

if so, tell me that plate opens up bigger !

I can fit in the tunnels just fine, but making it through that small hole in the plate eh, well someone better bring a sawzall !

I wish I could go so badly...

Any chance I could get the info on where it is for next time I'm back in town?

Also, do you know a good thread about Asbestos safety? I'm sort of a wuss on stuff like that and I'd like to know more about how to keep it out of my lungs...

And if anyone wants something else to do in Tucson, there are some killer stormdrains in the Broadway/Craycroft area, just find Wilshire Heights Park (it's on the east side of Craycroft south of Broadway, there's a sign), and then follow the ditch North towards Saint Joesph's Church. They go for miles (I haven't even fully explored them all), have no UAPD cops running around, and no asbestos. Just check Weatherchannel to make sure there's no Monsoons when you're down and watch out for critters (mostly just roaches, but it's Arizona so who knows).

At any rate, be safe and have fun everyone!

PM sent!

Also........ this may start some drama but it's necessary. Exact meet up information will be mailed out the Monday before the actual event. Over the past few days a bunch of lurkers have RSVP'd and I just don't feel comfortable bringing just anybody to the site since it is in such good condition. I am not going to risk the chance of this site being trashed or closed up due to somebody getting hurt. I'm not going as far to say that only full members are invited but if you've never posted on UER don't expect to receive the invite information. I'm not trying to be a dick but these sites are very rare and the location will not be given to just anybody.
