| | | I've never run into a gang in a abandoned building(possibly because i tend to go during the middle of the day?)
My friends dad was a police officer(for ~25 years) and he said the only trick is to be able to do exactly what you promise. It doesn't really apply here but be sure that if you make it seem like you will kick their ass then be prepared to do it. Chances are that anyone you will have to say this to wont care and will provoke you to do whatever it is your thinking.
also, regarding graffiti usually the quality will tell you whether or not its just a tagger or some gang members. taggers go for quality while gang members go for quantity. (most of the time)

Jesus...I ran into them, too. Scared the shit out of me. Until I sissy-slapped them and made them cry. I was approached by a rough-looking chap who asked me what I was doing and why I was taking pictures. I assured him that the camera was off, that the lens cap was on and that I wasn't going to take pictures of him, his bike, or the bold red and white lettering on the back of his jacket that proclaimed his membership in a special 'motorcycle enthusiast' club. I wrapped the shoot, told the crew it was over for the day, and handled the moron production assistant by asking her to read the words on the back of the nice man's jacket.

| | | My friend has warned me about a group of skaters who hangs out in the industrial park. Some of them'll flash a knife if you get too close, but I don't know how serious they are. I'm not too afraid of skaters, because I've never known them to attack with weapons. I find them fairly easy to talk with, because they don't have the same sense of territoriality as street gangs do.

| | | Never encountered a gang, though was amused to no end today by the obviously wannabe local gang's scrawlings all over the walls of the burned out building we visited. I live in a semi rural area, bordered by some larger cities, so my area is filled with 14 year old wannabes in make-believe gangs. Not that they should be entirely shrugged off if encountered, since the crazy kids feel they have something to prove.

I used to be a skater and have seen some shat! Mayhaps, you've never seen the damage the trucks on a skateboard can do to the human head? It is as much of a weapon as the knife, if not more so. You should always remember that some people really have no sense! It's pretty damn ugly!! http://www.youtube...vSb-I_aJykuNalz_sZ

Yeah, skateboards are a deadly weapon, but from my experience, most skaters are very friendly and cool to hang out with. There's a skatepark that I go to often, and everyone there is awesome. Everyone acts like they know each other, and not once have I seen anyone made fun of for their lack of skills, or anything else for that matter. But I don't know, It's in a nice part of town and it's relatively expensive to get in, so I guess that keeps the nasty folks out.

| | | The closest thing I've come to a gang was two Hot Topic-clad 14 year old girls wandering around Dever. And of course, the first thing they ask my partner and me is: "Do you guys know where the morgue is?"

| | | Yes. But it wasn't scary in the least. I'm in the business of protecting people from bad people and business is fun and fullfilling. I've always loved the utilitarian exploraion, such as draining tunnels and the old houses in the last legs of dead cities. Like Perth, BUT counter oprative exploration is more for me. That is Sneaking, Tricking and then Getting into places in which you ARE going to encounter human countermeasures- (Security, Managers and Big Ass Rotweilers for example) but depend entirely on social engineering as your access card. That said- You might understand now why I explore in a smart-casual suit. Hard to convince the cleark at the counter you are here to see Jason out the back, dressed as say, a Drain-Dwelling-Shock-Trooper. (Although original/non counter oprative exploring is great because of the things wind up looking like. Aliens for example.) To elaborate- March 15th 10:37pm GMT Australia. I was stuck on the last train to Gawler in Adelaide- Now that's a stupid thing to have happen-i blame my watch- when Gawler is one of the more scummy public train lines in the state. I've not yet been on that train without a fight breaking out or some one getting hurt, it's sickening. And here i am at 12-50 realising i'm not going to be able to make it home for 6 hours. Great. What Now? I decide to just stay onboard until the end of the line and catch a few Z'ds before i spend the whole night awake. Gawlers train being what it is we reach the end of the line and one minute out of the train i see a 40 something year old man getting kicked into a wall- I didn't inturrpt but instead dialed 000 on my phone- For you Americans 000 is our 911- and while waiting for a good 45 second post emergent call, It is now clear this violence is escelating to the point where trouble is going to turn into life in prison charges. I'm not a big guy, but to that credit i'm a great liar and stealthy enough to walk through a governent office unnoticed. (Don't ask) So as carefull as can be I edge my way around the train platform to where the 20 to 25 year old males were committing their little piece of social disfunction. Evidently they were having too much fun kicking a man who clearly wasn't up to being kicked very much. I step out behind them unnoticed still, and manage to get witthing about one meter before a blonde in the group turns around and jumps back with an allmighty 'SHIT!'. I just stand there with a blank expression looking down at the poor guy on the ground hands in pockets. 'Hey Get out of here dickhead. If you know what fuckin good for ya' I respond 'But if i leave now it's not good for him now is it?' I get a strange look back. 'Who you think you are Bro, i'll fuckin' smash ya if ya dun't piss off! You know who your dealing with?' I walk close to his face and lean in as far as possible and whisper into his ear 'If everyone here knew who they were dealing with this would be over by now, but i'm patient. Take your time and apologise.' The next ones laugh now and the guy goes 'Get out of here! I'm not gunna tell ya again, I'm fuckin Mark Yarris mate, So get lost.' Then i ignore him, lean down and say to the old guy and say 'Hey Dad you all right?' and pick him up. (He wasn't my dad but if they think that then the know i can't uninvolve myself) Now they have shut up. I then proceed to caution them and show them my Security and Investegations liscence. The also notice my Italian last name and the fact I've got a baton in my hand now. (They are allowed here) They proceed to start running away right into a pair of police who had just arrived at the station. All that without a single act of agression. Heard stories like that but that was my one and only "Gang ish" story. Honestly, gangers are mostly gut less and even if they are not, they are still untrained, mortal bodies with bad attitudes and drag habits which put them at a combat disadvantage. Still glad the old man- Brian his name was is okay. I wonder if i'd have been able to pull that act off were it not for the years i spent talking my way past difficult people? Thanks UE.
