Did nobody read what I said? I'm glad Alexis posted that as a confirmation, but I said how he fell about 30 feet into it. Bah.

(See Reply #9 to this thread.)

Thanks for the update & I hope he pulls through.

I thought I had a go ahead to post what I did. And I need to have that information removed from the thread as requested by someone representing the family. I did not realize you cannot modify a post after 24 hours. I need a moderator to please help with this.

Several people asked that this thread be un-deleted. One of the moderators had deleted it because it started to get a lot of names and other information that could breach this families privacy, and specifically the person who was injured.

I've gone through post by post and taken out any references to names. So if you got a notice that a post you made had been deleted or modified, that's why. Let's post updates about the guy, but just no names please.

With that, has anyone heard any updates on this guy? I hope he's getting better. Frankly, falls like that are my number 1 worry in exploring.

PS> If you see a name reference here that I missed, let me know and I'll remove it so that the thread doesn't get deleted again.

Denver is a small town and news travels fast. I know too many people who seem to be somehow connected, I heard...

He died in a surgery yesterday I think.

damn I hope that isn't right. I wish everyone involved the best, and after all this gates drama I have decided it is one place I can easily skip seeing.

Edit: I searched google blogs and found one that mentioned his death also. Sad, sad.

yes, if this is true it is very sad and my heart goes out to this family. I think of how it would be to lose a son like this. This is another of the many reasons why I no longer explore at night. I know it's a popular time for many, but if I can't go during the day, I just don't go. I really feel bad about this for the guy and for his family.

Damn, he died... Regardless of recent happenings, i was gonna hit the shit out of Gates when i come for Christmas. Now that i read the guy died, i can also easily skip visiting it.

This is why i dont walk without a flashlight. Ive also noticed some of the stuff the east coasters check out. The floors are heavily rotting in some of those abandonments over there. Falling scares the shit out of me.

PS, Imprezea im sending you that google blog link to your PM.

i would still go, it would be one thing if he died on sight or even shortly after. but i don't see the death of him a month or so later a good reason not to go. i am truly sorry that he has passed on. it's a horrible way to go, both falling and when exploring. i will take it as a reminder to be careful out there, to let people know where i am going to be, to always take people with me. I'll thank God for every day He has given me and keep exploring this world He has created.that being said i want to be able to keep doing this so i will be more careful.

I am sorry to hear about this death and my heart goes out to all who knew this explorer. When I pass, I hope it is while doing something I enjoy.

May I ask why?

Is it to say that you've been in the place before it's destroyed? That you visited one of the final remaining industrial landmarks of this city? If your goal is similar, then I say go.
If not, then don't waste your time. The buildings have been empty for years and there really isn't much to see... the risks are also pretty darn high, but I suppose that might be another reason to go, yes?

it's because i feel that there is a good bit left that i have not yet seen. i want to see the inside of the north and west buildings, mainly the north. i only got into the west tunnel i want to see the rest of them. although it is not my main reason for exploring the fact that i do not believe that anyone has documented the north building. and to some extent i guess that it's not a walk in the park.

Gates was alright, nothing to write home about.

6 of 10 stars.

after detroit it all pales in comparison around here.

I sure wouldn't let this guys stupidity deter me from seeing the crown jewel of denver. the thought of bringing more than a butane lighter for a light source occurs to me....

Well, I really doubt I'm going to go back before it's demolished. However, if you think you can get away with it I would highly recommend going. Personally, I thought Gates was amazing, my friend and I went there from about midnight until 6 in the morning just checking the place out. We managed to access the south building (where we entered), the roof, and the whole Kacey Fine Furniture buildings via a steam tunnel.

If you go, be careful!

The only thing I regret is not having my camera with me. But then, I would have spent another 8 hours in there if I did...

Maybe Belden spoiled me? I'm glad you guys enjoy(ed) the place so much.
Hopefully they leave something behind... it really is a shame, I'll miss seeing the place above Rivergate Hollows. Gates was one of the inclusions in that drains name you know.
