| | | Posted by TomUE I was once approached by security out of the premises.. He had seen me inside the premises and was extremely pissed off.. His exact words: "I've been chasing you all day." He got my information: phone number, address, etc. and said he was giving it to the police.. He then proceeded to call my house several times. Could I have told him to go screw himself and left? Say I was caught on some security camera. What then? -Tom

NEVER show your ID to anyone you don't want to, except to a real police officer. You were confronted by him outside his jurisdiction premise? You shouldn't have given him ANYTHING, including a minute of your time. I would have just ignored him, or asked him if he's a sworn officer(unlikely) and check the credentials. If he isn't, I would have exactly told to his face "fuck off, overzealous rent-a-cop" and walked off. In your case, if he touches you and try to do anything, your parents can file a criminal complaint against the guard as well sue his employer for misconduct. You are under no obligation to comply with security guard outside of his jurisdiction. Only thing you're required to do is leave the premise if you're asked to do so within his jurisdiction. REAL sworn officers(transit police on public transit, some university police for example) or police officer: Address him as "officer" and "sir/ma'am" and be cooperative, polite and honest. Be a pleasant fellow.
Posted by ExKa|iBuR You are under no obligation to tell him anything. However that might mean the difference between an arrest and a warning.

He was OUT OF the premise. It's like the Disney police trying to stop you on the freeway for speeding [last edit 9/4/2007 4:07 PM by Deuterium - edited 1 times]

| | | Posted by Bigbob What can they do to someone for "photographing the property"? If I get caught with a camera and walk off and come back later what can they do about it? They cant arrest me because they would be making a citizens arrest and to do that they need to have a reason such as me committing a misdemeanor;so what can they do?From what I've read I can refuse to show an ID or go to the mall office so that limits their "authority" even further. They could call the local police but that would be pretty much useless since I' ve comitted no crime and I'm not causing a scene. If I refused to speak to a mall cop, what then? They cant confiscate my camera because that would be stealing, since basically they are just a citizen themselves. I just wondered what they can actually do,they always walk around thrusting their balls out so everyone cowers in fear, but what can they do?if anyone knows Alabama's laws on this please let me know.
P.S.Lets use this topic to answer each others questions on the topic.

i can trespass anyone at any time from my property without reason. simply because its private property. i dont do that however unless i tell someone to leave and they bust my balls about it. once they are trespassed and they come back, its an arrest. citizens arrests are for felonies only (at least in florida)

| | | Posted by kemmer I guess it depends on where you are. BITD we used to drive to the various malls and shopping centers and act all suspicious at night. Driving slowly with the headlights off, sometimes with spot light. On snowy nights, we would do doughnuts. We would wait for the Security guys to come, and take off only to return a few minutes later. Eventually, we would lead them on a slow speed chase around the mall and finally leave the property lest the real cops show up. You would think they would enjoy the diversion, but they didn't. One time the cops showed up at my house (again, *sigh*) and asked what was going on. I just told them I let friends borrow my car and there wasn't a thing they could do. Another time, the security chased us on public streets for a while till we ended up on a dead end street. He blocked us in, and when the cops showed up, they chewed out the security guy for following us out of the mall property and gave us a stern talking too. It was hilarious to see the mall cop completely stripped of all authority. Can you tell by my last two posts that there wasn't a whole lot to do where I grew up?

| | | Walt Disney World has the largest private police force in the United States.. So they could in theory pull you over. There are some circumstances where you must id yourself to non police, it depends.

they arent police at all. they carry a standard D license. they also have what are called foxes, plain clothes people who catch shoplifters. they can pull you over for speeding but still, they are just security. all they can do is observe and report like most guards.

| | | Actually, they are Police. The Walt Disney company owns, operates and controls the cities of Reedy Creek and Lake Buena Vista. All policing is done by the Orange County Sheriff's office by direction of the Disney Company. It's a similar situation as the Highway 407 in Toronto. It's owned by a private company, but they hire Police Officers of the Ontario Provincial Police to police it. Not to be technical about it, but I wasn't talking about Disneyworld in Florida, I meant the one in California. They are fully sworn police officers that are employed by the Disney company.

| | | No, they're printing fake AMEX traveler's checks. I just got off of a two month long gig down in Florida. The case involved fraud, meth, and at least two disney employees. Oops, NDA.
Please don't be stupid. It might piss me off so much that I have a seizure or something. I hate stupid people. |
