Footsteps is something that is always troubling. This is something I think strikes at least a slight amount of fear into each and every one of us. When you believe you are alone and the sound of something human drifts into your ears and sends chills down your spine there are only 2 things you can do. The first instict is to stop dead in your tracks, turn off your light and breath as lightly as you can. This set of responses is always made so much more difficult due to the silence aside from whatever menacing sound has you spooked because you can never seem to get quiet enough to feel undetectable. The second response to such a situation is, of course, turn tail and run (not my style) I have a passion for investigation, and when the shit gets weirder, I get more curiouse.

So, on our first visit to KOP (Kingsbury Ordnance Plant) We found the abandoned facility, parked (not realizing a key player in the later spooking) Then slowly and quietly approached the buildings. (they set just behind a warehouse that appears to be currently in use but not occupied) We get to the entrance, an open end of the building affording a view all the way to the entrance to the second facility, a slightly more narrow, but also debris filled area. Also keep in mind that the building is VERY long and mostly open, so we cannot se the other end in any clear way. We take a few steps into the building shining the light along the length of the structure which has a separating wall down the center on the building horizontally spaced evenly down the building with 2 open halls on either side. We are about to get to the first open space when we all stop (4 of us) Thud...thud...thud...thud...thud....scrape...thud...thud...nothing...we wait (now just 2 of us as the others got scared and responded in the second way) We stand there in the dark looking at each other. "this is a little sketch" I agree and we give a quick shine of the light down the open hallway after hearing more footsteps. After a short discussion we decide not to enter the building and head back to the rear of the first warehouse where the 2 others in our group are babling about a flashlight and saying someone was there. Me and my other friend, both level headed take one look and realize that the light out front the first building has some character, in other words it turns on and off at will.

We all walk back to the entrance of the facility to take another look together, on the way there we cross a large concrete slab and all of us hear a very loud rhythmic thumping sound much like machinery, but each of us passes it off as someone walking heavily ( this is discussed after we leave the place and raises some questions and ads to the spook of this first visit.) The other 2, after again hearing footsteps head back to the car. Now to add to the mystery of these noises, no cars were around the area, This place is in the middle of nowhere and what happens next raises more disbelief as to the possibility of another person being inside these buildings. As we stood once again listening and watching the entrance of the first abandoned building we heard a female voice comming from the building. We looked at each other, both probably with the most retarded expression of "what the hell was that" and we again heard the footsteps.

Out curiosity not yet satisfied we decided to walk the length of the first building along the (very crumbly barely visible) street beside it. We reached the second facility which is almost identical. We stopped to look at the building and searched for a way in. The entire facility is lined with doors and there are also fire slides that come down from the upper levels. We heard the noises once again, and we retreated calmly back to the street. Looking up at the top of the building I saw a figure move across 2 sets of windows on the uppermost level. This was not, at the time, such a big deal. We decided to call out and stated we were urban explorers and to response if anyone was there. We got no response.

Taking a minute to evaluate the outing before leaving we discussed the probability of a lone explorer, a tagger, or a squater. Things taken into consideration.
1. Footsteps continuing after awareness of our presence seemingly unconcerned with our being there.
2. Female voices are not only strange because of the likelihood of a female alone in an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere, but that female voices are much more difficult to imagine due to their complexities.
3. The absence of any transportation to reach the site, regardless of the nonexistent level of security.
4. (This realization would come after the second visit) The top level i saw the figure move across was not accessible. Had it been in the first building it would have been, as there is a ladder still intact leading to the roof with the cooling/heating equipment, but the second building was stripped of all of its ladders.

subsequent visits also yielded strange sounds, and figures seen by the entire group as well as voices that everyone heard.

I do not believe in ghosts and i have never been afraid of any supposedly haunted places. This site is not even considered to be haunted, so those thoughts were nowhere in my mind at the time of these occurences.

This was the most frightening experience i have ever had while out doing urban exploration.

From what you have indicated, and the mysterious voices...did they sound "disconnected" or strange in anyway?

Did you ever get an eerie feeling of a presence? And what did the apparition look like in the windows? A place does not have to have a reputation to be haunted. It is a good chance that you had a paranormal event take place there. Ghosts can imitate sounds from machines, animals, their own voice they used to have, etc. Then you go and find out the machine never moved. Most apparitions are greyish, to a transparent white. Evil spirits are usually in black...looking like shrouds. It is a form of intimidation.

Did you ever feel any cold spots in the air? PM me wih more details if you can. I am VERY interested in this. This sounds like a possible haunting, but need more information...and to possibly do some investigating of my own to be sure it is or isn't haunted. I can pick up EVPs, and capture some video of a spirit to see for sure. Thanks.

coffins? neat, doesn't really sound scary. maybe at night it would be a lil spooky, but i really don't see what the whole fear about death areas is all about.

My girlfriend and I were UEing this abandoned power plant, we had been there awhile and were about to leave but I wanted a couple more shots of the basement, so she stayed on the 1st level while I went into the basement. I'm poking around down there when I hear my girlfriend call my name, I stop and listen but don't hear anything more, so I pass it off as a wierd noise I thought was my name and keep poking around. I hear my gilrfriend call my name again more urgently, this time I move to the stairs leading upstairs and listen again, still no more calls, no "hurry up let's go." or anything like that. I go back to poking around again when she calls my name with so much urgency I thought the cops were coming and we were busted. I go up the stairs and as my head clears the first level I see my gf calmly standing there faccing away from me looking at some piece of machinery. I stop and am somewhat confused at this point because she is obviously not in a panic, so I go back downstairs and take a couple of shots before we leave. After we're back in the car and driving away I asked her why she called my name and she said that she didn't. She then asked me why I was dragging sheet metal around in the basement. I looked at her and told her I hadn't moved anything larger than a wrench. At this point we're both wide eyed with chills going down our back, especially when I tell her I felt a presence down there by the double doors to an equipment storage room that gave me the distinct feeling it didn't want me to open the doors and to go away.
We've been back a second time but no spookiness in that round.

I was exploring an old abandoned Psych Hospital, with one other person. I was in the building, and all of a sudden, i hear a really loud engine running outside. 3 Cars come racing through the area that the hospital is in (which is gated off btw..). We stayed inside the house for a little while, waiting for them to leave.

Once they left, we went back out to leave, and found that the gate that they should of went through was still chained shut.

I looked around and didn't see any other way they could of gotten in. It was pretty creepy.

We got chased by a giant, river rat that was, and this is no lie, the size of a cat! And not a muskrat, mind you, a full-blown rat.

Other than that, we scared some kids out of a cave once. That was pretty hilarious.

You have to tell the whole story on that!

The only things creepy that happened to me was 5 years ago. My group of childhood friends (think Stand By Me) found an old house that was completely sealed up by wooden boards. After knocking on the back door, something slammed on it from the inside. This sent me into some state of complete shock; I took off running for my life without thinking, it was just some primal act to run to survive.

I guess this counts as scary too.
I was exploring a training area of an Army post where I was stationed several years ago.
The area was formerly a small farming village but all that remained were overgrown foundations.
The area was adjacent to an artillery impact area for 155mm cannon and heavy mortars - but not close enough to worry about. . . . . or so I thought.
As I was nosing around the overgrown ruins I heard the thud of an artillery section shooting off a volley.
Seconds later 3 155mm rounds impacted less than a kilometer away from where I was standing.
I don't know if you have ever been close to impacting artillery but it is deafeningly loud (especially if you are not expecting it) and the concussion feels like you have been standing next to an amp at a concert all night.

I have a recent one, but it's strangeness is something that I'm sure is normal for the vast majority of people on this site.

I was taking a first-time friend UEing in an abandoned industrial site. However, on turning up to the rear entrance we could hear faint gunshots. We went inside and after clearing the tree line saw about 50ft in front of us a man in full camo gear shooting birds. Scarpering back to the trees, we had a look, thinking that the small sounds were just an air rifle, but this thing was a massive hunting rifle replete with silencer.

Now I know that people are thinking, "So what?", but this is the UK, the only time I've ever SEEN a real gun before now was at airport security. This was something out of the ordinary; actually so was the guy, he had long grey hair hanging down his back, definitely not security.

Anyway we decided it would be best to avoid the guy and travelled further up to a tramps home, where there was a ladder that we could use to get back over the fence.

We wasted an hour looking around a small fraction of the site, and my friend was wanting to leave and stood by the ladder, I was angling to actually explore and crept towards the main building to see if the hunter had gone. I walked to the corner just at the same time as a black Landrover rounded it, I moved so fast that I covered the ground to the ladder and had climbed it before my friends reflexes kicked in. On the way around the front, now in my car, we saw security people pointing and talking.

So a rather standard UE escape, but an odd encounter.

Now this is going to sound really cheesy, so before I start I'm going to note that I'm not one of those who believes in the supernatural. Yesterday, I was bringing two friends exploring for their first time. Everything was going very well and we were all enjoying ourselves. We eventually made our way to the main staircases (it was an abandoned salvation army citadel). we went to the second floor, and walked around for a bit, seeing what used to be the ball room. upon leaving to the staircase, I heard what sounded distinctly like a slightly muffled piano coming from the ball room. I consulted my friends to make sure I wasn't imagining things, but they heard it too. We simply left to the first floor again and it went away. I'm sure there's a perfectly rational explanation for it, maybe somebody was playing a piano in a nearby building and the sound drifted in such a way that it sounded as though it was in the building. Whatever it was, it freaked me out.

Was exploring large theater auditorium in the roof, lighting, sound areas - went down stairway - about 6 flights of stairs and was about to open door to another area and saw a hat in the small window in the door.-person was facing away- I stepped to side - heard key in lock and door started to open - dove under stairs - about five people ran up the stairs- saying "yeh we saw him", "we got him" etc. I let them get up a couple of flights and bolted for the stairway door- then to nearest exit - once out the toughest thing was to slow down and act causal - heart racing and expected to be stopped.

Next time you go, (if you do) whenever you feel that presence again...just start taking random photos in the area you feel the presence. You may even feel cold spots, or see some kind of apparition...don't be scared and run. A typical spirit can't hurt you. Apparently, someone died there; probably working a long time ago. It takes a LOT of energy for them to come to our plane, so therefore your digital stuff will loose battery power. Reason is, spirits are just electomagnetic energy, and use our devices to give them more energy. What you don't see with your eyes, your camera will pick up. Same with sounds, too.

I have noticed many paranormal type encounters, here. I have been ghost hunting for years, have extensive knowledge on the paranormal, of all kinds; apparitions, spritits, mists, orbs...that are spirits...not all are, poltergeists, and demons. If anyone has any questions regarding strange encounters you believe to be of the paranormal, just contact me and I can help with any questions or give info...or even visit the site myself to prove or disprove a haunting.

I know this is not what most UErs encounter a lot, or believe in; if so you need to ask...feel free to post to me, or PM me.

ok so there is a disused phsyciatric hospital on an island just an hour or so out of town, not well known but there none the less... its only one floor with a long corridor straight as an arrow with rooms coming off the corridor , just single rooms and not very big, just enough for a bed and small cupboard...its a walk down some bush tracks and the outside is overgrown with trees and such...there is a door at either end of the corridor...

so , being uber bad asses, myself and two friends head there in the middle of the night, bit like a ghost tour, and only one of us has a headlight

so headlight dude in front and myself and other very close behind slowly making way down corridor peering into rooms and hoping for an experience of some kind..the atmosphere was heavy and i felt like pooin me panties..

so we knew ppl had died here but just thought it would be a cool creepy experience...as we are about in the middle of the building we push a door wide open and the room is empty but for an old dirty bed, the doors are old and move badly, as we stand there looking in , the door moves then swings slowly back to closed position, no way anyone could have been behind it !

we ran like never before - on the same island is a sport and recreation camp that was in use at the time, my two friends peeled off past that building but as i was in the lead headed straight for it and down what was a three sectioned old wooden wheelchair access ramp, very big and leadn into the building which had a school group asleep in it - i stopped at halfway along second downward section when i realised i was alone.....then the sound of hooves, not paws, not feet were racing down the first section i had just navigated - F##K !!

i ran straight through the buildin, out the other side and into my friends house ( his parents were caretakers there ) still gives me shivers to recount the story...

one more.... and i have only ever told this story once, not even to family or close friends...beleive it if u want

there is a large private school near the city with a Brothers ( like priests ) residence on the property...my parents being uber religious ran a number of gatherings and used this property as a meeting point for their groups...and took me...and i would disappear and explore the buildings...i was about 13...
so i headed into the brothers residence, huge old building with many floors and long old corridors...i was sneakin about and made it into what seemed to be an old , and private part of the building...and into a small room that looked almost formal with polished wood highlights and old pictures on the wall...in the corner of this oddly placed room was a tight staircase, small and headin up..so i went up.......f##k me!
so the room i looked into was long...and had a low roof, like it may have been a room with an atic roof about 8ft high with sloping sides from the middle..and all along the room in even spaces, were old hospital beds like out of M.A.S.H on tv... and the first half a dozen were empty but at the end of the room were men in beds.maybe two or three..not strange.?..there were two nurses and they were wearing circa 1940's nurses outfits, with those odd shaped nurses hats.. this was not a misperception and this sight was clearly wrong... before i ran for my life one of the nurses stopped, and i had been deadly silent in my approach and turned around slowly and looked at me with a pale and absent look on her face....i ran out of that building like i have never run before...and have been tempted to go back and ask about it but know they will think im losing my mind or on drugs...my spine shivers and my mouth has and throat have dried out just typing this memory

sometimes history doesnt die, but its memory remains , in some way for us to discover

these things are impossible to comprehend unless u experience them, i dont expect ppl to beleive me, i dont care.... but for those of u, and many replies in this thread reflect it, have had a ' strange ' experience, u know exactly what i mean

i lived in a haunted house once too - but thats another story, not UE'ring...
