I've found some pretty cool shit in the river beds. Fiend and I go out there every now and then and hunt for things.

I found an old newspaper article from 1944 that said a military plane, I think it was an Avenger, crashed into the Arkansas a couple of miles up river from where I live in 1944. The pilots body and the 50 cals were recovered but the plane was left. I wonder how many pieces of it ended up down river and if any is still buried under the sand?

That would be an interesting thing to look for some time. I wonder if someone could get some shots of the remains if ever found?

No kidding. Soooo much stuff out there. Used to be a lot of old oil equipment dating back to the 20's out there, though a lot of it has been cleaned up. There are still lots of old foundations and remnants of old brick structures on the river beds around 21st and 31st. *Edit, found some pics
This stuff is now gone. WISH I got more pics of it... There were some old boilers a few hundred feet away too. Was at 71st and riverside.
And me and KJ found this. Still havent figure out what is, how it got there, or even how far down into the river it goes. It has two levels above the sand. Top room has a manhole access from the top to the lower level. And the concrete it is made out of is the same exact type I found in Picher from old foundations of mining equipment and tanks, so very old. Its north of the 11th st bridge in the middle of the river.

Ha! Me and KJ went by those a few weeks ago. I'd seen them for years. Here's what they all have in common; they are in the river, and they are next to a refinery. The single one is next to the old sunoco refinery, and those one in sand springs are just south of where the old Sinclair refinery used to be. The only guess I would have would maybe be some sort of water intake system for the refineries...

| | | I find this very interesting. I'd really like to know what these things were. I know back in the dust bowl, drought years, pumps were built for irrigation directly in the river beds. The boilers discount that, but with the river, who knows what gets piled up. I'm sure Fiend is correct on the others being related to the refineries somehow. Now I'll have to get out the ATV and see if I can find the damn plane.

| | | Here's one I ran across the other day riding through the state. It's out by Evan Chambers lake in the panhandle.
We found an old pump and refilled some water bottles while we where out there.
...the wings on my shoes shrank now the moths won't eat my kidneys, when i shake my state capital it only yields 3 fairy napkins, but how do i know my banana slippers are like water boats because when the moon winks it burns my hamster punches, and that's how you get to llama school rowing your canoe backwards up main street when the front bumper falls off, do mermaids get to drink orange juice? |
