My bad, I suppose my assumption even bordered insensitive. I don't know much about state schools...my figuring was that at least most of the students would have to be very disabled, most often mentally, to end up there. All the schools I've been an actual student at had plenty of kids with Down's Syndrome...they'd never been to any sort of institution. It was an ignorant comment even just for something I unthinkingly typed up quickly.

Anyhow, like I've said, I don't get bad vibes. I believe in presences [now] but I can't imagine it ever affecting me on a visit anywhere. Worst I've ever gotten is 'knowing' there was someone behind me in a TB ward when I was alone.

The girlfriend is another story. When I bring her somewhere I do have to take the vibes into consideration. Belchertown didn't sit well with her, and the stuff she looked up about it probably made it alot worse.

I only believe the article [which she found excerpts from, not the full thing] because there was nothing listed about it being discredited in all this time, the school was closed [as read for neglect], and it seemed plausible. All the state institutions had funding and thus understaffing issues.

Who knows? Could have been nonsense. I was just given different information by someone else who read about it.

Hey dude- I'm sorry I started an argument with ya, didn't mean to attack (or have anyone else) attack you. Those rumors tend to go around for all mental health facilities, it doesn't matter which one-- and of course BSS wasn't always a great place to be-- but they did the best they could, and kept up with the changing mentality of mental health care best they could.

too bad you didn't post a few days ago, i was just there. trying to see it as much as I can before its gone (the end is more than likely near seeing as its about to be sold off). I live almost 3 hours away and I try and make it at least every couple weeks. I don't like going there (or anywhere) with a large group though. But I'll hit you up next time I head out and maybe we can meet up. I know my way around there rather well

Sorry it took me some time to respond, the thread fell through the cracks since I got so busy that nearly everything fell through the cracks.

No offense taken at all and I didn't see it as an attack. More like an education...I didn't know anything other than the worst of the worst. Probably should have figured that's how news goes.

If you plan to see BSS this week proceed with caution; we ran into a rabid raccoon today and there was no question about it. I first spotted the raccoon and started sneaking up to get a shot of it; typically thinking with my lens instead of my brain. By the time I got about 15 ft away, it registered that it was mid-afternoon and the raccoon, who by this point had all but stopped and smiled for the shot was out in the open and not at all bothered by me and my flash flickering away. It wobbled off away from us straight toward a group walking their dogs, falling over a few times on it's way. The dog walkers made a quick escape and luckily no one was bitten. We were however very nervous the rest of our adventure and left considerably earlier than planned, being just a bit too uncomfortable with the raccoon there somewhere and it being dark.
So yeah watch out for it and wait a week or so before you go sticking your head or hands into little spaces.
We have by the way named the doomed raccoon Toby Belch.

That sounds rather intense, going toe to toe with a rabid raccoon. Haha, I may have to take a ride just to wrastle said raccoon...

Think rabid raccoon sightings might up security? They're probably gonna be watching the grounds more than usual. And by that I mean they might actually watch the grounds.

there's no "security" but that doesn't mean that people don't watch or pay attention to what goes on there. If dog walkers where chased by it then chances are they notified animal control. I kind of doubt that animal control gives a shit what urban explorers are doing there but you never know. Either way, I walk my dog there fairly often and I'm pretty sure I could outrun a rabid raccoon (or at least beat it with my tripod) but my dog would be all over that thing so thanks for the heads up. BTW..I want to see the pictures.

The only thing is the police office right next to it. I'd just be cautious if I were to go. Probably the first time that ever calls for it. Rabies is something they wanna keep under wraps.

They don't survive very long once they get it. You get those pics processed yet?

I once heard a rustling and saw a raccoon's fuzzy little face in a tree while walking down the road skipping class at 12pm. I was like "wtf?" and kept going, more rustling, I look back to see him in mid-air and heard a thump as he landed. He fell out of the tree. I could not stop laughing.

Yeah for the last few weeks I've wanted to take a trip up there. I know my brother would be up for it, and maybe my cousin; so I'd have plenty of people to go with.
