Wow check out the period features... Like a... uh... Pink fridge!?

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Something else you may find interesting are the so-called Texas Towers. They were three platforms built in the Atlantic, off the US East Coast. There were supposed to be five, but only three were actually built.

These platforms had one search radar, and two heightfinder radars, and were linked into the SAGE system as part of North American Air Defense.

Of particular interest to some of you may be the tragic story of Texas Tower 4 that, having suffered early hurricane damage, finally collapsed during a winter storm taking 28 people with it.

For more info, if you're interested, check out...

I saw a documentary on this where they scuba dived(sp?) down to the wreck...thing was huge.

Yeah, some of the crap in that one picture is clearly not period stuff.

Sometimes and if you know the "right" people there are spots available on the clean up / damage limitation crews, generally over a weekend.

Pretty sure the pics are from one of those trips

I think it would be a simple matter of extending my dick out from the mainland. Then, like plank walkers of old, we could all safely walk across my 'cock-o-bridge'.

Surely that's the easiest way?

Chris...

LOL.......<3

But seriously folks. This is probaby one of those things like why explorers in Cali don't go playing around Alcatrez.

Could we get on the island? Probably. Are you going to be able to explore? Not for long. Think about it.

That must have been a hell of an operation to remove everything from inside when they were decommissioned!

Nice work! You guys rent a boat or what?

What's with all the leftover gear? Recent pirate radio operation?

Chris...

I imagine the operation consisted of:
1: torch off mounting brackets
2: dump everything over the side.

That's how the US military decommissions stuff. At the coastal forts around my high school they just pushed the 6" cannons off the edge of the islands, buried all the ammo for kids to find in the 60s, and half-assedly cemented up a few bunkers with gear still inside. They forgot one of the guns too. I read somewhere that after Vietnam, the navy pushed most of their planes and choppers off the carriers into the ocean since they didn't need them anymore and didn't want to flood the surplus market.

Local fishermen pulled up more containers of mustard gas few weeks ago...
