Maunsell towers can be seen at the end of Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die" music video. http://www.youtube...RyyJI&feature=fvst
(cool video and quite a good song by the way.)

that whole area of water is under radar cover so you would be spotted by port control very quick. and has a bit of a tide flow so count out the small boats so any element of stealth has gone due to that. it would be easy to get to on a decent boat but the issue is would the ports send the police/ harbor master after you

The people who took the pictures got out there, close enough to get the shots.

One of the towers has a retrofitted landing platform and ladder. I think it was installed after new sea fenders were added to the towers legs.

I think it would be a simple matter of extending my dick out from the mainland. Then, like plank walkers of old, we could all safely walk across my 'cock-o-bridge'.

Surely that's the easiest way?

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

I think easier than the cock-o-bridge would be a helicopter assault; simply land on top of the one you wanna explore and find a way in. I mean, there's bound to be a rooftop access port, right?

I didn't say it was economical, just easiest.

Also, anyone who would try to cross those connecting bridges, after sitting out there in (well, above) salt water for all these years is insane.

*edit* - Oops...just saw a more recent picture, looks like the walkways are MIA now anyway.

I'm considering harnessing Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe to some kind of sea going chariot. One must be resourceful.

With Phelps and Thorpe you'd never get there, you'd just go in circles. Phelps is faster.

Something else you may find interesting are the so-called Texas Towers. They were three platforms built in the Atlantic, off the US East Coast. There were supposed to be five, but only three were actually built.

These platforms had one search radar, and two heightfinder radars, and were linked into the SAGE system as part of North American Air Defense.

Of particular interest to some of you may be the tragic story of Texas Tower 4 that, having suffered early hurricane damage, finally collapsed during a winter storm taking 28 people with it.

For more info, if you're interested, check out...

With the amount of Awesome, Epic, Uber, L33t explorers in the UK at the moment I am surprised that it hasn't been done already! ... With the appropriate amount of posing people shots included (which should number more than the number of the shots of the location) of course

Hmmmm, perhaps we need more cock-waving to try and get the team across?

I'll send a fresh, crisp five dollar bill (USD) to the first person to post a set of interior photos from these towers! No historical shots mind you...must be taken after June 6th, 2009.

There's a modern version of the Texas Towers up in Alaska right now:
http://www.noahsha...chives/003097.html

I agree with the boat plan, it's not too hard. I've been out to various "inaccesible" islands several times on small boats, either the drive-n-drop method, or the "surf in on a kayak and try not to drown" method. Small boats don't show up on radar very well, especially plastic/fiberglass hulls and anything with mostly convex angles, or anything low to the water (it's why certain boats have to have special radar reflectors). You're more in danger of getting visually spotted by some concerned nosy boater than you are of showing up on coast guard radar.

http://freak.minim...com/lighthouse.htm

Both times I've been on that lighthouse we've set off alarms, once in the lighthouse itself "Coast Guard will respond, if you are not in distress do not enter", and once in a cell tower equipment shed. No one showed up within 12 hours, so they don't care that much, and it's an active site that's critical to all kinds of communications and navigation stuff. Actually the second time I went to ridiculous lengths to bypass the lighthouse door alarm, only to find it had been recently cut! If the US coasties can't be bothered to check out an alarm at such a site post 9-11, then I imagine the UK coasties have better things to do than go all special-ops on someone taking pictures of a rusty abandoned tower.

Conclusion: small boats probably wont' be noticed on radar, and if they are, no one will likely care.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Just an FYI...the latest patch/update to "Call of Duty: World at War" includes a map called "Battery" that is loosely based on the Maunsell Sea Forts, as you can see this screenshot:
